Commissioner's Corner 11/4/2016

11/4/2016 - B II Commissioner's Corner

·         Standings and Schedule attached.
·         Nice Shot, but Out (Hunt’s team) moves into First Place with victory over short handed Croft squad.  Croft healing and Andrew on another continent proves insurmountable challenge for WTF squad.
·         Hunt and Mark finding their doubles groove at a opportune time.  Hand Chupacabra and El Cubano first loss as a team.  Too much gumbo and cigars for Mesa at Tops’l according to Burt.  BD threatening fitness program for El Cubano in order to right the ship.
·         There has been an Anath siting and its about time captain.  Lefty combination of Anath and Emile tame Chap and Skip in a close hard fought match.  Can anyone beat this touch lefty pairing?  Hunt gloating on line up choices and talk of interest rate  hikes.
·         McGuire replaces Andrew and pairs with recently retired Blake Hebert to defeat Bentley and Billy.  Undefeated Blake carrying torch for Team Croft in 12-10 third set tie breaker win.  Loss almost brought Bentley to tears until the drinks kicked in and team secured 2-1 match win.   McGuire sharing secrets with Zipp on “how to beat Priola” has Priola questioning loyalty to Gulf Coast Spirits.  Reward program cannot come fast enough.
·         Zipp Wins, Zipp Wins, Zipp Wins.  From the open mouth insert foot department….Zipp and Bruce humble Priola brothers.  Priola “Malachi” Crunch failed in third set tie breaker and Triple H goes down (again).  Steady Kingsdorf and reach of Zipp the magnificent at the net prove just worthy enough to secure win.  Zipp and Bruce gloat walking off the court with first victory in B II with surprising upset.  Young Priola apologizes to captain for giving opponent bulletin board material. Mutha Bitch!  Brad left scratching his head but takes head knowing Triple H only 1 match back.
·         Ray takes one for the team and sacrifices 1st line against Chris and Donald for the betterment of the team.  Topspin was working for MVP front runner Kobrock and C&D notch another victory.  Schneider’s junk keeps things close in 1st set but reality rears its ugly head (and Ray’s overhead falters) as the new dynamic duo keep winning.  Potential contender Triple H needs to find Donald and Chris some help and Brad has to get rid of his head cold.
·         Phayer and Steve pumped after tightly contested match against Ferrer and Cannon Cayman.  Come from behind victory in 3rd set secures win for Super Ray Jay’s team.  Kevin standing tall on podium (that’s a first) gives credit to opposition for a well played match but sarcastically thanks Ferr for ill timed lob attempt that went due south at 9-7.  Humid to Nipple-ly weather change during match may have affected outcome.   Ferr distracted by Mark Fair’s infatuation with Steve’s erect nipples definitely had an impact on the aforementioned shot selection and execution.  “It is what it is” quote from Steve may have all been a part of the master plan.  Nipple distraction keeps Steve from 4th league loss and shows why Steve gives up tennis in the winter.  Band-Aids or pasties may be in order as B II heads into December.

11/10 match in jeopardy with PAC singles tourney on the horizon.  Assume it depends on how many participants sign up and if they need to start on Thursday vs. Friday.  Will let you know if we lose courts on Thursday.

Bentleague X: The Sequel Draft Recap

Bentleague X: The Sequel Draft Recap   Not for the faint of heart…back by popular demand…here is the St. Bernard Swami’s recap of the Bentleague X Draft.   First things first, this is an unbiased take on the captain’s picks and how the teams fared out on draft night.   As the ombudsman of Bentleague you can count on an unbiased evaluation of each team from top to bottom.   Congrats to the Commish for finally getting rid of the cockamamie scoring system that favored top picks more than late round selections.   This is an inclusive league for all PAC members, and a win by Rockin Toupsie or Josh (Mr. Irrelevant) should be just as much as a win by Russ “Don’t call me Russell” Anderson.   Wait…did Josh win any Bentleague matches last year?   I digress…on to the team draft grades. Drafting in the number one position was Hairy Hal Neitzschman aka. Spin Doctors II.   No surprise here with Russ going first overall.   Clear #1 by everyon...

Bentleague Blog/Vlog 10/22/2025 - Round 2 Match 2 and 3

I'll BE BACK! Going with the VLOG to recap match 2 and 3 of Round 2. https://youtu.be/rLpJlQK81UM? feature=shared --- Here are a couple of parting shots as I go to the IR: Sensei Kobrock will live in Bentleague infamy for having a person who was in Germany in the line up. Grant is still winless!  How is this even possible with those fundamentals. Rudy is working hard to fulfill third round expectations...finally gets in the Win column and it only took five matches! Old Knees Harvey should not complain about being at line 6.  Congrats on the W with Millsie. Nick is the only captain this year to not have a previous title under his belt and its showing.   Don't bet on the Ego on Saturday mornings! The youngin's are asserting themselve,s but a few of the old guard still know how to win.  Especially in TSTB's. Round 3 will reveal who had the best draft middle on down.  Time to get some more players involved. Being on the IR during Bentleague is more painf...
