Commissioner's Corner 12/10/2016 - The Final Chapter

Commissioner’s Corner 12/10/16 - the final chapter

- Triple H Captures B II Championship! Brad dials up potent line up for winner take all title match vs. Eff U Hunt. Matches mostly lived up to pre match hype. But before we delve into title matches let me give some press to the also rans

- Chupacabra and El Cubano finish strong and give captain Ray another loss. Latin lovers shine on rubico and beat Ray and Bruce on Schiester Bruce's preferred surface. Oh what could of been if email snafu wouldn't have occurred and Mike wouldn't have pulled his no show routine. Heal up Croft... We want to see you back on the court.

- Ray's pre match bravado ridiculing Commish proves futile as there would be no three way tie as predicted

- Blake rights the ship with Saint Nick vs Vertically challenged Kevin and the sly one Mark Schnieder handing Kevin league leading loss title. Cries for "where's Steve" permeate throughout as Kevin tallies the loss. Did Steve bet against Kevin so he would not get labeled biggest loser. This may be the first time Kevin had Big next to his name.

- Nick auditioning for spring USTA team shines with Blake. Shoulder appears healed and rumors of impropriety while playing PAC Santa remain unfounded. BLake secures tie for third in tightly contested MVP race

- Gordon Gekko and Zipp take down Skip and Chilli Eater Dave to give Ray's team their only victory of the night. Gordo had the forehand working and combination with the tall one proves too tough to handle. Dave's stories of his athleticism in High School have folks question Mandeville HS competition. Winning National titles in Thibodeaux not the same as playing b ball teams from New York and Philly Dave. Northshore athletics no rival to south shore athletics IMO.

- As previously reported Eff U Hunt and Emile take down Ferr and Brad in line 3 match on the Wednesday prior to championship Thursday. Questions abound as line swap strategy back fires. Did Bentley really bless this line up? Did the protege ignore the Veteran Captain's advice? Was banking on Line 2 and puppet champion mark a good idea? Seemed wise on the surface but there was still two matches to go and depth of Triple H was grossly under estimated

- Make no mistake about it. This match was won on Wednesday when poker face Brad put in the line up. Countering line up swap that worked for Eff U Hunt earlier in the league Poker face Brad calls bluff and splits up lethal combination of Donald and Chris. But how would he pair up these two stalwarts of Thursday night tennis. Que Up the Milachie Brothers of Chalmette (Arabi)!

- Line 2 featured previously undefeated Svelte Mitch and Equally vertically challenged Mark Fair vs Donald and the elder Priola. Plan to keep it away from Donald back fires as LJP (lil Johnny priola) channels Catholic league competitive fire and answers everything thrown his way. Mitch moves to 3rd in MVP race with loss. Dancing Donald secures 2nd in MVP ballot propelling Triple H to 1-1 vs. Hunt's team with one to go. DAncing Donald likened match to getting tipped for table dances back in the day. LJP set the table and the ladies purses opened up.

- With one match still playing Triple H fans felt confident seeing The B II MVP (Chris) leading Line 1. In the end it was Killer Kobrock and the younger priola taking down Vic and Ananth. Pre match CHS fight song set the tone early. Kobrock humming along as Dixie and alma mata was played. Tension was evident. Chalmette vs. Mandeville, Jesuit vs. Anyone, Hatfields vs. McCoys, conservatives vs. liberals, India vs. Pakistan, paled by comparison to Priola vs. Vic round 11. Strategy to play priola at the net vs. Chris's ground strokes seemed sound on paper. Tony channels his best OBJ to Vic's Norman as the Warriors compete with underlying tension. Steady Vic did all he could for team Hunt. Tightly contested first set goes 7-5 to Triple H as Ananth's net play falters. Why doesn't some tell Ananth to stay back on the baseline? As it turns out...MVP Chris helps the young Milachie Brother win his last three matches at Line 1 to get Triple H back in title contention and Tony back to 500. 2nd set a little anti climatic after two net chords fall in for Triple H and a left handed lob hits the back line. There will be no broken serves for Tony's wind buster serve on this Thursday and the Second set is won 6-2. Triple H are champions. As the salutatorian used to say in school...another day another A. In this case it's another Bentleague...so it must be another championship title for Tony. Can u say Back to Back baby!

- All of the pre match questions and pre league questions were answered on this chilly and windy Thursday evening. Pre league draft grades prove accurate for Triple H but Overrated Stogies highly disappoint. Brad answers questions about captain prowess by drafting best team top to bottom. Commish 3rd round selection justified after all (Stock is rising for B III next Fall!), cold winter awaits Steve and Kevin remembering come from ahead loss to Doug and Donald. Mitch train derailed as predicted as EJ alum goes down on final Thursday paired with the short Mandeville skipper. Paper Champion Ray proves that is why you play the game as pre draft hype finally subsides. Bentley announces he wants to be a captain next year because he is tired of watching his name slip down the draft board and others not listening to his advice.

- Check is in the mail Brad. Thanks to the rest of you for your donation!

- It was fun boys...see you on the court soon.

B II Commissioner Out!  Until next time...

Bentleague X: The Sequel Draft Recap

Bentleague X: The Sequel Draft Recap   Not for the faint of heart…back by popular demand…here is the St. Bernard Swami’s recap of the Bentleague X Draft.   First things first, this is an unbiased take on the captain’s picks and how the teams fared out on draft night.   As the ombudsman of Bentleague you can count on an unbiased evaluation of each team from top to bottom.   Congrats to the Commish for finally getting rid of the cockamamie scoring system that favored top picks more than late round selections.   This is an inclusive league for all PAC members, and a win by Rockin Toupsie or Josh (Mr. Irrelevant) should be just as much as a win by Russ “Don’t call me Russell” Anderson.   Wait…did Josh win any Bentleague matches last year?   I digress…on to the team draft grades. Drafting in the number one position was Hairy Hal Neitzschman aka. Spin Doctors II.   No surprise here with Russ going first overall.   Clear #1 by everyon...

Bentleague Blog/Vlog 10/22/2025 - Round 2 Match 2 and 3

I'll BE BACK! Going with the VLOG to recap match 2 and 3 of Round 2. https://youtu.be/rLpJlQK81UM? feature=shared --- Here are a couple of parting shots as I go to the IR: Sensei Kobrock will live in Bentleague infamy for having a person who was in Germany in the line up. Grant is still winless!  How is this even possible with those fundamentals. Rudy is working hard to fulfill third round expectations...finally gets in the Win column and it only took five matches! Old Knees Harvey should not complain about being at line 6.  Congrats on the W with Millsie. Nick is the only captain this year to not have a previous title under his belt and its showing.   Don't bet on the Ego on Saturday mornings! The youngin's are asserting themselve,s but a few of the old guard still know how to win.  Especially in TSTB's. Round 3 will reveal who had the best draft middle on down.  Time to get some more players involved. Being on the IR during Bentleague is more painf...
