· We are all square. Final two matches were played last
Saturday.
· Recap
o
FYVM vs. String Music - John “The
Duke” Allen and David Mount vs. the other half of the Malachi brothers (Jawn
Priola) and Rocky Payne. It went three
sets with FYVM pulling it out. The Duke’s
quote said it best. That SOB Jawn Priola
is good. He reminds me of Black Box Wine. You can’t judge the quality of his tennis by
the packaging. And that folks is how you
get a new nick name. 3-6,6-4,1-0 FYVM
o
Cannoli vs. Team America –
pitted Commish Bentley and the Captain (Gordo) vs. JMiller and McCarthy. What looked like a sure win on paper for
Gordo turned into a blood bath. Speed
and Power of team canoli couldn’t be matched and victory was attained in
another third set nail biter. 7-5,4-6,1-0
Canoli.
· Week 2
o
Canoli vs. Stttrrrriiiinnnng
Music
§ John “the Duke” Allen and Michelin Man Mitch
take down Loeb and the clay court specialist Burt. Playing partner says The Duke playing like a
first rounder. The Duke equally
complimentary of Mitch. Tried to get
post match comments from Chupacabra but he vacated the premises quickly after
getting broke late in set 1 and 2. Broke
Back Burt feeling the weight and pressure with 1st and 2nd
round picks out of town. Loeb potential
is high but thwarted against this power duo.
§ 2nd match paired Jason Miller and
Cannon Caymen against Hal Neitchman and FYVM’s namesake Vic Morlas. Contrasting styles and some fine tennis was witnessed
on both sides of the net. See Saw battle
finally ended when the last cannon ball hit the back fence. 2-0 night was sealed for String Music giving
the Urologist his first Bentleague win.
o
FYVM vs. Team America
§ On the clay we had Captain Jacobs and Donald
vs. Ray Jay and “I before E” Spiess. High level tennis to say the least. In the end…Donald and his imaginary friend
secure first win in B III. Steve
overcomes confusion with Donald talking to himself and Donald avoid straight
jacket by avoiding 0-2 start. Valiant
Effort Ray although you could not repeat “W” earned last week.
§ 2nd court had Father/Son
competition and the usual mind games that follow a Kingsdorf match. Bruce and Mike (El Cubano) Mesa vs. Young Ben
and Big Calf Johnny. Got it right
Mike. Got interesting early as Mesa and Bruce
lose first set after leading 5-2. Normalcy
restored quickly in 2nd set and tie breaker as out gunned youngsters
lose in three. 2nd win for a Geratol
three member. Pressure is on Ryan to
follow suit.
§ Third match had mismatch written all over
it. Council Keller and Steady Skip vs.
Dave “Wing Man” McQuire and the Commish Bentley. Stallion knew this one was going to be
trouble from the warm up. Team America having
Match up issues as pre-season predictions indicated. Commish not happy with the no-shows. I see a new rule coming out soon for teams failing
to produce four lines. May have to
investigate no-shows for legitimacy.
Cheaters be-ware! Councilman
Keller establishes himself as early season MVP candidate and Skip proves value as
a past champion. Captains scratching
their heads about letting this guy slip in the draft. 4th and 5th rounders
cannot carry line and lose straights. The
“wing man” nick name gets questioned as waffle house, barley oak, and tennis
court comparisons are made.
§ FYVM goes 2-1 with one match to play and a
formidable line up already inked.
Captain Gordo in trouble as coup looms.
§ Anybody seen Eskine? He’s like the Where’s Waldo of PAC
Tennis. And what about Bobby Hurley….
§ Can Sttttrrrriiiinnnnngggg Music build on 2-oh
start? Do they have enough healthy
bodies to sustain momentum? Will Ronny
bring back something from Colorado to speed the healing process?
§ Observation1:
FYVM looking impressive especially when you got EffU Hunt and Mr. Black
Box himself playing line 4. Don’t’
believe Team America has the fire power to prevent 3-1 week.
§ Observation 2:
Why would anyone wear flip flops with dress pants? And if one chooses to wear flip flops with
dress pants…wouldn’t you assume he would clip his toe nails. Getting queasy just thinking about it….yuk!
§ Stay tuned…looks like we’ll have some
separation after the conclusion of week 2
