Bentleague III Blog – 11/17/2017
Beer is good
and free beer is better. Big thanks to
Barbara and PAC for the comp’d beer left over from the recent doubles tourney. Kudos to Big John Allen and Willey Billy Spiess
for capturing the 4.0 Doubles Championship against The Ego and BHump.
Now to the
recap of Thursday Night’s action:
Team America
vs. FYVM
·
Greg/Fred Hunt/Donald 7-5, 6-2
O’fer Greg
Gordo still looking for Win#1 proving nice guys do finish last. Donald and the Bearded one prevail and on the
surface I don’t know how the first set was so close. This one had mismatch written all over
it. Hunt intimidating with No Shave November
appearance and Donald rebounding nicely with several Win’s in a row. Beau Chen outings have Friendly Freddie behind
the competitive curve on Bentleague competition. May need a better pairing to get in the Win
column. Sorry Greg….at least Tops’l was
a success.
·
Ray/Mitch John/Todd 1-6, 6-3,1-0
Someone call
the Donald (not you DAllen) because Ray’s stock keeps tumbling. Poor Chap - Poor Chap…Pour him another drink
because he has no luck and no wins. Yet another
close defeat at the hands of Box Wine Priola and Toad (Todd) the wet sprocket. Never-miss Jawn vying for MVP candidacy with
another impressive win and also may take Jared’s place as the leading weight
loss sponsor. You have a shot as long as
you stay away from little boys.
·
Billy/Bentley Ben/Skip 7-5, 6-3
Good match
on the show court as Billy rides confidence from recent title with the Commish
to victory. Fine play by Young Ben and
Skip thwarted by Billy’s overheads and Bentley’s net game. Young Ben still reeling from Tops’l loss
against the Malachi Brothers has to find a way back to victory lane. Only setback for FYVM as Steve continues to
dial up chemistry in his line up pairings.
Team America gets one line and falls into last place as early
indications suggested.
String Music
vs. Take the Cannoli
·
Brad/Jason beat
Chris/John Allen 6-7, 6-3, 1-0
Ouch. This one hurt to watch. Almost as hard as watching Jason play in
those short shorts. And I thought Chris
wore short shorts. B IV will have a
mandated 7-9 inch inseam on shorts in order to participate. Have to take this one to the board. I digress.
Back to Tennis. Hard fought match
goes to the Cannoli’s as Big John tires towards the end after playing tennis for
6 straight hours. Dan Quayle is no JackKennedy
and you are no Steve Jacobs John. Rest
up on match day young man and the results may be different. Kobrock feeling the pressure of sub’ing for
the injured Priola fails to capture first win to Ferr’s chagrin. Short Shorts’ back hand return and one
impressive overhead exhibiting surprising good hops was too much in the end.
·
Andrew/Kevin beat
Ronny/Ananth 7-5, 3-6, 1-0
Always entertaining
McQuaid and Captain Cannoli grit our finale of the night (also on the show
court) to cement demise of SM on this chilly Thursday night evening. With the crowd watching (too close, I might
add) and pressure mounting Ananth and Ronny falter in another third set massacre. As the
pressure mounted so did Ananth’s number of serve bounces. In the end,
scrambling duo take the clincher.
·
Burt/Doug lost to
Hal/Jay 7-6. 6-3
No love playing the
night cap on clay with the crowd hovering around the keg and hard courts. High Value Hal and Jacked up Jay bring Ferr
his lone victory of the night vs. the King of Tinder (Ukrain edition) and Smiling
DougAutin. Magic subsides for Autin and
I didn’t listen to the Dalton Gang’s recap so I really don’t have much to
add. Hal and Jay in straights keep SM
one ahead of bottom dweller TM.
·
Blake/Mark beat
Mitch/Vic 3-6, 6-4, 1-0
In the twilight special the Ego escapes yet again. Svelte Mitch and not the namesake of Steve’s
team come out like gang busters to make Captain Cannoli nervous early on. Mark steadies himself and overcomes the
double fault king to win in a nail biter third set. Actually, the third set was anti-climactic as
Cannoli’s roll.
30,000 foot
summary:
Tie at the
top for B III Title. Looking forward to
Line 1 vs. Line 1 with these two title contenders. Stallion says top tier of FYVM will be tough
to beat if the availability works out for FYVM.
Smoke and Mirror victories for Cannoli’s will cease and FYVM will expand
lead soon. Will to fight waning for Team
America and String Music. HTF did String
Music lose three against FYVM last week with Donald, Steve, and Hunt not in the
lineup. This week’s results hurt even
more and losing three tie breakers will not be easily forgotten. Out of tune/String Music not living up to
pre-season predictions needs to right the ship quick to stave off abuse from
Cannoli’s. I see two two horse races
here. One for the title and one for the cellar. Hate
to say it….but the standings don’t lie.
It is what it is.
