Bentleague III Blog 12/15/2017 – The final chapter.
Cannoli’s Win…Cannoli’s Win…Cannoli’s Win
First and foremost… I am Humble!  I didn’t see this one coming.  Kind of disappointed in FYVM’s finish.  On paper, I still see three victories in that line up.  But, as Kevin would say….To hell with paper champions!!!  Let the love hate relationship with the Cannoli’s begin.  Take the Cannoli team rises to the challenge and captures B III Title in a fantastic finish to B’s third installment.  Big thank you to the commish for all you do for PAC tennis and our crew.  Friendships beyond tennis.  We are lucky.
Congrats again to Kevin and his team.  I even like most of them.  Just a reminder…winning team (B I) contributed 1st place winnings to year end party!

To our chagrin…we have to watch the love fest continue one more time at the year-end Christmas luncheon.  Betting by the end of that – Cannoli’s will officially be the most hated team in Bentleague History.  Well at least one of them will be the most hated!

Oh well….You have to win it on the court and the Cannoli’s did just that week in and week out.  Most lines won had Cannoli’s only needed two lines on this final match of B III.  Truth be told I am a little let down that it’s over.  I was pulling for one more match.

“Let’s tie these bastards” Theme from Captain Extraordinaire Kevin proves the vertically challenged mastermind knew what he was doing from draft day forward.  Another 1st overall rallies team to title proving pre-draft selection is where champions are crowned.  Key’s to the Cannoli’s victory are many so let’s get started.
Pre –match pep talks from Captain Cannoli prove invaluable.  Cannoli’s may have to give partial payout to String Music for oh for four outing the week prior because that cushion proved insurmountable.  WTH- Still scratching my head on how we went oh for four.
FYVM Captain comes out heavy with Donald and the Councilman vs. Jason and Burt in line 1.  The mastermind didn’t flinch because everyone knew he was conceding this line except Steve.  Head Cannoli knew all he needed was two and he was banking on two of the remaining three lines to secure his title.
The Captain himself and Nice Guy McQuaid had their hands full vs. the dynamic duo of EffUHunt and YoungBen.  Youth would prevail again and it was really not that close. Watch out for this pair in B IV.
Stage was set for a crucial match on dirt and nail biter finale on court four.
Didn’t see much of the dirt match but as it turns out …Box Wine Jawn couldn’t make my pre-match predictions a reality.  Betting BigMac McCarthy was the difference because we all know Brad needs someone athletic to cover 80 percent of the court to his 20.  Assumption is fire power won out as Shane and Belding win in straights.  Belding Brad posts another W for the Cannoli’s albeit mostly at line 4 leaving team Cannoli one shy of the title.  The squirrel’s plan was working….as designed.
FYVM’s fate was sealed once the crowd moved towards court 4.  Have to call it like it is….Bully Blake and theEgoFair stepped up their game when it mattered most.  Proud Papa Cannoli looked like the cat that ate the canary as he watched his charges hit shot after shot.  Pre-match Gamble for his number one draft pick paid off with a 1 and 4 seed playing the FYVM Captain and a 6th rounder.  Witnesses seen FYVM’s title chances fading as the tension got tighter.  Stoked by some pre-match discussions Bully Blake’s serve held steady to FYVM’s demise.  Blake vaults into the MVP discussion with an undefeated season with the help of continuous pairings with theEgo.  Draft day questions are answered as the theEgoFair validates Kevin’s iffy number 1 selection.  FYVM's Captain and the Rock of Gibraltar go down in close 2nd set tie breaker to hand title to the Cannoli’s.
Observations/Comments/Lagniappe as we approach B IV and close out B III
Tennis gods not kind to Nice Guy Gordo but spare Chap an O’fer!  Sly Schnieder putting that phycology 101 class to use in final match of the season to prevent TM sweep at the hands of SM.
Kudos to Doug for third straight title.  Not likely to cause a rise in stock but nice jeopardy answer if anyone asks.
String Music bounces back in last match to take 3 of 4 from TM to secure 3rd place.  Oh what could have been without so many injuries?  Competitors to the end.  Got to love it.  Sorry about the knee captain...sppreciate you rallying the troops to 3rd with so many injuries.
Keep an eye on those Rising for B IV
Ben, Shane, Schneider, Spiess, Miller, Jawn, Addison, Jay, Shane, Keller, Cannon,
And those Falling ...
???
and those recovering from injury
Tony, Mitch, Ryan, Croft, Vic, Robby
See you Thursday…
Till next time

Bentleague X: The Sequel Draft Recap

Bentleague X: The Sequel Draft Recap   Not for the faint of heart…back by popular demand…here is the St. Bernard Swami’s recap of the Bentleague X Draft.   First things first, this is an unbiased take on the captain’s picks and how the teams fared out on draft night.   As the ombudsman of Bentleague you can count on an unbiased evaluation of each team from top to bottom.   Congrats to the Commish for finally getting rid of the cockamamie scoring system that favored top picks more than late round selections.   This is an inclusive league for all PAC members, and a win by Rockin Toupsie or Josh (Mr. Irrelevant) should be just as much as a win by Russ “Don’t call me Russell” Anderson.   Wait…did Josh win any Bentleague matches last year?   I digress…on to the team draft grades. Drafting in the number one position was Hairy Hal Neitzschman aka. Spin Doctors II.   No surprise here with Russ going first overall.   Clear #1 by everyon...

Bentleague Blog/Vlog 10/22/2025 - Round 2 Match 2 and 3

I'll BE BACK! Going with the VLOG to recap match 2 and 3 of Round 2. https://youtu.be/rLpJlQK81UM? feature=shared --- Here are a couple of parting shots as I go to the IR: Sensei Kobrock will live in Bentleague infamy for having a person who was in Germany in the line up. Grant is still winless!  How is this even possible with those fundamentals. Rudy is working hard to fulfill third round expectations...finally gets in the Win column and it only took five matches! Old Knees Harvey should not complain about being at line 6.  Congrats on the W with Millsie. Nick is the only captain this year to not have a previous title under his belt and its showing.   Don't bet on the Ego on Saturday mornings! The youngin's are asserting themselve,s but a few of the old guard still know how to win.  Especially in TSTB's. Round 3 will reveal who had the best draft middle on down.  Time to get some more players involved. Being on the IR during Bentleague is more painf...
