Draft Recap - 9/7/2018
As Ernie Ladd would say…When there is cheese on the moon,
you better bring your crackers!
The word of the day is optimism. Everybody thinks they have a chance for the
title on draft night. The Italian
Stallion is here to pull back the curtain on the winners and losers of the B IV
Draft by grading our fearless captain’s selections.
Let’s start with
Double Shots….
·
The Ego Fair goes #1 overall for the second year
in a row to Donald and Keller’s chagrin.
No surprise here from Free Willy Spiess.
Solid selection especially with Round 1 having singles.
·
Have to admit…I like this squad top to almost
the bottom. Addison loves this squad too
in case he didn’t tell everyone who would listen last night. Nepotism played a part early but line-up is
riddled with athletes. Selections 3-6 distinguish
Willy’s draft from mediocrity to exceptional unlike the Flying Burritos’ mid
draft selections. I have a feeling the
Ferr-Priola combo will rival Mid-South’s Wrestling’s long standing tag team
Champions the Rock and Roll Express. I
foresee some sad faces when others look across the net to see the Fabulous
Freebirds reincarnated.
·
Steal(s) of the draft IMO are Neitchman at 8,
and Morlas and Zipp at 10/11. Two of
three here played college ball. Athletes
top to almost bottom indeed.
·
Mr. Irrelevant already on the phone scheduling
lessons to prove the critics wrong. Robbie
says other captains will rue the day they let him fall to the 48th
pick. Loved reminiscing about the times
you used to whoop on Brad as a former youth tennis prodigy. Look forward to you reclaiming that mantel.
Draft Grade A-
(one Caston away from an A+)
Mother Tuckers
·
Solid as a rock early, but fair to midlin late and
mid rounds. Can Doug really pull off a
4-peat? Odds and that back hand say
no! Wild card here is young B III and
why MT went for a singles specialist at 2.
This may come back to haunt Svelt Mitch but time will tell. Trend from B III has players dropping in
draft status. Goof to 3 and Phayer to
5. Stallion likes Mount at 47 but this
team will be challenged in round 4 when the tomahawk and Autin play with
Captain MT.
·
Not convinced the McCarthy/Economides/Delcam threesome
will stand the test of time and propel the MT’ers to the Promised Land. Predicting one too many L’s with these potential
pairings. Stallion Loves Strain at 9 as the most
consistent of the Geritol three but too many gray areas to warrant title
contention and a higher draft grade.
Draft Grade B-
CMC
·
Word for this team is cronyism. Unprepared Mesa goes with his heart and not
his head with cast of cronies that fail to garner real title consideration in
Stallion’s opinion.
·
I foresee Keller coming out with a chip on his
shoulder early questioning his fall to number 3 overall. Prediction is that the pressure will wear him
down (rising to first round this year) and he’ll falter with all the heavy
lifting.
·
Looking at the line up and potential pairings I
see a lack of athleticism mixed in with an aging tennis team. Not so super Ray at 2 was a gift from the
Burrito loving captain but the paring of El Cubano and
Chupacabra has officially lost its luster. Chupacabra focusing
more on his Latin tinder account than tennis spells doom for CMC. BTW….pool to guess what CMC stands for is
open for guesses. Rumor has it that Mesa
is offering 10 Cuban Cigars and a sleep over at the Mansion on Lakeshore when
and if it ever gets finished. Strange
relationship solidified as Chupacabra has already put in 9,864 guesses for
potential slumber party.
·
Rebuilt Ryan Bottomless
Pit Doubt a stretch at 8 lowers team grade.
Stallion comfounded about doubt getting the first nod of the Geritol
Three. Analysis says that three picks from
the Monday Chicken Dinner crew is two too many.
·
Consensus from Addison
at least is that JMiller is fully recovered from his elbow injury. The young opinionated one was touting Miller’s
game from last Thursday to all who would listen but Stallion believes that
could have been a smoke and mirror type of outing. Franco’s transfer showing promise against B
II does not equate to more victories than losses for this 6th
rounder. I see one too many left handers,
some love handles, and an Olinde weighing early draft successes down the
grading scale.
·
Head over Heels Blake
will have to forget the courtship for a while for this team to have a chance
and I don’t see that happening. Power of
the P will cost CMC wins just like it cost the city of Troy during the Trojan
War.
·
Stallion just don’t
see more than two wins per line up with this roster. Sorry El Cubano.
Draft Grade C
Flying Burritos
·
Captain Burrito had a plan I’ll give him
that. The sweaty one broke Ray’s heart
with an early JAllen selection. No
longer super Ray falls out of the first round with Big John’s ascension. Challenge is real for best Allen Brother
status at PAC and Donald is already mad because everyone seems to like his
brother better. Only problem is that
forced the burrito loving McQuaid to go for a singles specialist next. Can Kobrock compete with the other first rounders???
Stallion doesn’t think so which may force undefeated Hump to singles. That will of
course be the last time I use the phase undefeated Hump and singles in
the same sentence.
·
Brad to high at 3. Short Shorts Butcher at 4 (solid), Oh-fer
Gordo at 5 (hot and cold) and the aging before our eyes B II at 6
disappoints. Winning not a priority for
most of this line up IMO. Stallions says
the Young gun duo on the turn at 9 and 10 could pay off but more than likely
will back fire for first time Bentleaguers.
Waffle House Ditch and Diver on Mandeville’s most wanted after he skips
on late night hash brown bowl.
·
Line 3 pairing of Groenoveld and Gordon had
Andrew sweating most of the night. Too
many reaches up and down this line up to warrant serious title consideration
although Triple S - Steady Skip Scoggins brought high value to pick 45. Roller Coaster GCS proprietor got a taste of
things to come in a recent mid week loss.
Too many moving parts in that jump serve equates to more L’s than W’s. Really hasn’t won consistently since Croft
retired.
Draft Grade D
All over but the
crying now boys because next time it counts!
See you on the courts!!
Stallion Out!!!
