Bentleague Blog – Columbus Day Edition
Apologies gents….It’s been awhile since the last blog.  You can rest comfortably knowing your hard earned tax dollars are at work with me as a loyal public servant. For those of you who actually pay your fair share....
Was out of town on 9/22 but heard everyone went 2-2 and Robby even got a game or two off of Kobrock in singles.  You are a nice guy Mr. Kobrock.  No notes on this one…but 2 and 2 sounds like kissing Aunt Hilda on Easter.

Thursday 10/4 Recap:

Fyling Burritos vs. Mother Tuckers

·         Dave and Nick Lose to Shane and George
The professor and Shane appear formidable.  Tucker dialing up good combinations to remain in 1st place with these two.  Shane’s stock is rising and the always steady ambidextrous George continues to rack up wins.

·         John Allen and Andrew lose to Todd and B III
Have to admit, pretty ballsy of Andrew trying to garner a win with 1st round selection.  Better dial up a lower line if you want to build up those statistics.  Young B III showing upside as high value 4th round selection.  It’s early but may be steal of the draft in Rd. 4.  A few vying for this title including his partner but his name is definitely in the hat.  Todd the wet sprocket in Rd. 8 paired with B III pleasant surprise for FU Tucker.

·         Chris K loses  vs. Hunt (i stand corrected)

Chris handled business early from what I witnessed.  Valiant comeback by Hunt’s after being prodded from the sideline.  Lackadaisical start overcome and Hunt correcst blogger with late update.  Hunt Wins Hunt Wins Just not the Pig.  Nice win HV!

·         Donald and Tucker Lose to Jay B and Brad
Brad reaping rewards from excellent pairings early.  I see a 4th line Andrew pairing in your future.  Didn’t see too much of the action but if no rackets are broken it usually means the short-short wearing tennis prodigy is winning.

Mother Effing Tuckers take 3.

CMC vs. Double Short
·         Perry and Fair win vs. Burt and Mesa
Classic on the Clay from what I hear.  When the Peacock comes strutting and Burt is quiet after a match, you can pretty much figure out the outcome without hearing the score.  Nice welcome back for the Ego as he returns from a brief hunting camp excursion.

·         Schneider wins vs. Tribal Tony
Yes.  You can judge a book by its cover.  A youthful fitter Schneider shines like a new penny vs. the former singles specialist.  Mark-e-Mark Schneider proving worth for CMC as more and more drop slices fell in front of the elder out of shape statesman.

·         Cayman and Hal lose to Jeff and Keller
This one was over quick according to bystanders.  Captain CMC pulling no punches in double line pairings.  Rumors swirling about his selective roster pairings.  Commish may have to look hard at minimum match guarantees as IN's and OUT’s being questioned.  Congrats to the councilman and still undefeated new comer Jeff “Soft-hands” Thompson.

·         Zipp and Vic lose to Ray and Jason
This one got interesting.  Valiant effort early by Zipp and Vic to capture first set.  Upset special short lived as a Fired up Vic wakes up the sleeping giant in Super Ray.  Ray with Lefty Miller rally to take it in three to Captain Double Shots dismay.

END of Round 1 Standings….

Round 2 Begins….
Saturday 10/6 Recap:

CMC vs. Burritos
·         Schneider and sid beat tyler and nick

Schneider and Senior’ Sid humble the youngsters.  Word on the street is young Tyler having nightmares about slice forehands after this one.  Sen ore’ Sid’s 4.5 forehand and the Sly one’s junk stake CMC to victory.

·         Dave and Gordo beat Burt and Ananth

McGuire gets Gordo in the WIN Column.  Odd pairing by Captain CMC but glad to see Ananth on the court.  No regaling of points after this one as the Latin Lover departs early.  Surprise “L” for CMC.

·         Keller and Blake beat Brad and Jay

Women weaken legs advice from the councilman paying off for CMC.  Is it true he makes Blake sleep at his house the day before matches?  May be the most talent in B IV one through seven and El Cubano adjusting pairings accordingly?  Olinde sightings unfounded so far…

·         Andrew and Chris lose to Jeff and Ray
Another tough pairing for Burrito McQuaid and another win for Soft-hands Thompson.  Super Ray trying to dispel “not so super” label incurred at this year’s state tourney and doing just that.  From the cheap seats…it looked easy for the CMC pairing.

Double Shots vs. Mother Tuckers
·         Tony and Addison lose to Mitch and Robby E

Tale of two sets early as each squad splits lopsided sets.  Svelt Mitch and Robby jump out early in third setter and it’s too much to overcome from the first time pairing of Addison and the stock dropping tattooed one.  Captain Billy at a loss trying to figure out a way to get his 4th round selection a win.

·         Billy and Robby C win vs. Eskine and Todd

When in doubt…dial up an Eskine.  Notoriously slow starting eskine proves to be a confidence builder for Caston and the Double Shot captain.  Shaky start serving overcome by the tennis whisperer as pairing made in heaven.  Caston shining in tie breaker pleasant surprise for Fast Willy and leaves DS team with glimmer of hope progressing into meat of the season.
The Sproket proves human suffering rare defeat for EFF U Tuckers.

·         Fair and Ferr win vs. Hunt  and Shane

Nail biter on court 12 early as another match goes to third set tie breaker.  Recap says Shane was solid but Hunt faltered late with double faults and missed volleys.  Win just what the doctor ordered for Willy’s Double Shot squad.

·         Perry and Steve win vs. Donald and Ronny

Last match of the day proved entertaining as the crowd moved to mid court to cheer on their respective teams.  Peacock paring with the box jumping Jacobs solid line 1 for Captain Willy.  Even 18 Bathroom breaks by the Peacock could not stamp down this tennis tandems momentum.  After two hard fought sets….it was on to another third setter.  Hard to watch collapse personally.  Crowd could sense the collapse once Eskine gave serving advice to the 4.5 MT 1st round selection.  Too many voices in the head spelled doom for the Donald and Goof.  Journey lead singer namesake gets well fought revenge on MT pairing from round 1 and keeps title hopes alive.

Bentleague X: The Sequel Draft Recap

Bentleague X: The Sequel Draft Recap   Not for the faint of heart…back by popular demand…here is the St. Bernard Swami’s recap of the Bentleague X Draft.   First things first, this is an unbiased take on the captain’s picks and how the teams fared out on draft night.   As the ombudsman of Bentleague you can count on an unbiased evaluation of each team from top to bottom.   Congrats to the Commish for finally getting rid of the cockamamie scoring system that favored top picks more than late round selections.   This is an inclusive league for all PAC members, and a win by Rockin Toupsie or Josh (Mr. Irrelevant) should be just as much as a win by Russ “Don’t call me Russell” Anderson.   Wait…did Josh win any Bentleague matches last year?   I digress…on to the team draft grades. Drafting in the number one position was Hairy Hal Neitzschman aka. Spin Doctors II.   No surprise here with Russ going first overall.   Clear #1 by everyon...

Bentleague Blog/Vlog 10/22/2025 - Round 2 Match 2 and 3

I'll BE BACK! Going with the VLOG to recap match 2 and 3 of Round 2. https://youtu.be/rLpJlQK81UM? feature=shared --- Here are a couple of parting shots as I go to the IR: Sensei Kobrock will live in Bentleague infamy for having a person who was in Germany in the line up. Grant is still winless!  How is this even possible with those fundamentals. Rudy is working hard to fulfill third round expectations...finally gets in the Win column and it only took five matches! Old Knees Harvey should not complain about being at line 6.  Congrats on the W with Millsie. Nick is the only captain this year to not have a previous title under his belt and its showing.   Don't bet on the Ego on Saturday mornings! The youngin's are asserting themselve,s but a few of the old guard still know how to win.  Especially in TSTB's. Round 3 will reveal who had the best draft middle on down.  Time to get some more players involved. Being on the IR during Bentleague is more painf...
