Round 1 Match 3 – Recap

Oct 3rd, Thursday

Hall of Framers vs            B III Ball Busters

Butcher/Hebert                Buddy/Fair          6-3,6-3

Opps there goes another one!  When rackets gets broken, there’s trouble in Denmark.  Nair poster boy and you can call me Ray no match for Ball Buster line one.  Sir Isaac helps the Ego get back into the win column with ho-hum 3 and 3 victory.

Peltier/Mesa                     B III / Econo        7-5, 4-6, 1-0

This one hurt.  Spoiling Hefty Lefty’s attempt to get two victories from a depleted line up, B III and ADHD-Robbie surprise in upset of the night.  First 4.5 to go down and go down hard he did.  As Eskine always says…Bentleague success is about pairings and match ups and this one didn’t bode well for HOF’ers.  Playing against two of the best overhead hitters at PAC was not conducive to El Cubano’s lob fest game last night.  Although it went three sets…tie breaker was anti-climactic.  B III feeling pretty good getting 3 victories and garnering a share of 1st place.

Tony / Gordo                     Perry/Cayman   6-4, 6-0

Welcome aboard the Tony The Tiger train Gordo.  Even through the 4-4 first set, Triple T (aka The Saint of St. Bernard) and Gordo appeared in control of the match.  For those tracking at home that is three victories in three attempts against the three individuals who were drafted in front of little Nadal in the fourth round.  Just saying.  Whenever you can use the word Steady and Gordo in the same sentence, there are usually good results to follow.  Hats off to the other undefeated HOF’er.

Robert/Winn                     Sid / Nick             7-5, 6-2

Swami thought we had a chance at this one.  Going to clay may have been the difference here.  Tricky Nicky vying for most improved player and Senor Sid were tough on the dirt.  Pair that against an inconsistent Anglo Hispanic and a newbie making his B V debut and you get a straight set loss.  I predict a Winn in your future Ken so hang in there.

BFAM    vs            Bring It

Donald/Dave                     JA / Kenny           6-2, 6-3
Ouch.  The other Allen Brother had no answer for the Red Robin’s debut.  Cementing his Best Player not named Jon status, KennyO proved worthy paired with a giddy Big JohnAllen.  No tea and crumpets for you DaveG.  Easier than expected W for Bring It.

Keller / Hunt                      Ronny/Ray          6-4, 4-6, 1-0

Match of the evening had the crowd on the edge of their seats and all it took was a Southshore Athletic comment to light a fire under Northshore Soft EffUHunt.  2nd set magic could not be sustained by Pink Hat Ray and Batman in the tie breaker.  Way to bail the Judge out Edward…he gets angry when he loses.  MVP of the match on a losing team is some consolation Batman.

Chris / Hal                            Billy/ George     7-5, 6-3

This one looked good on paper, but since they went to an outside court on clay, most did not get to see it.  It was also pretty far away from the Beet.  Too bad too, because it looked like some great points were played.  In the end, the contrasting styles of Kosher Kris and VonNeitzch were too much to handle for Geritol George and Free Willy Speiss.

Burt / Bentley                    Addison/Ferrer 6-0, 6-4

Matching combo of the two B’s (Burt and Bentley) no match for 7.5 Combo title holders Ferr and Ponch Melacon.   Goose egg first set had fans losing interest.  Somewhat respectable 2nd just to be nice.  I foresee a date on the court soon with Ponch to gauge just how far this guy’s tennis game has improved.

All square between Hall of Framers and Ball Busters at the conclusion of Round 1 with 7 lines won, with BFAM one back.  Bring it opening GOOSE EGG may haunt them for awhile.

Round 2 starts Saturday with
Four doubles lines.  Third set will be a full set.

Bentleague X: The Sequel Draft Recap

Bentleague X: The Sequel Draft Recap   Not for the faint of heart…back by popular demand…here is the St. Bernard Swami’s recap of the Bentleague X Draft.   First things first, this is an unbiased take on the captain’s picks and how the teams fared out on draft night.   As the ombudsman of Bentleague you can count on an unbiased evaluation of each team from top to bottom.   Congrats to the Commish for finally getting rid of the cockamamie scoring system that favored top picks more than late round selections.   This is an inclusive league for all PAC members, and a win by Rockin Toupsie or Josh (Mr. Irrelevant) should be just as much as a win by Russ “Don’t call me Russell” Anderson.   Wait…did Josh win any Bentleague matches last year?   I digress…on to the team draft grades. Drafting in the number one position was Hairy Hal Neitzschman aka. Spin Doctors II.   No surprise here with Russ going first overall.   Clear #1 by everyon...

Bentleague Blog/Vlog 10/22/2025 - Round 2 Match 2 and 3

I'll BE BACK! Going with the VLOG to recap match 2 and 3 of Round 2. https://youtu.be/rLpJlQK81UM? feature=shared --- Here are a couple of parting shots as I go to the IR: Sensei Kobrock will live in Bentleague infamy for having a person who was in Germany in the line up. Grant is still winless!  How is this even possible with those fundamentals. Rudy is working hard to fulfill third round expectations...finally gets in the Win column and it only took five matches! Old Knees Harvey should not complain about being at line 6.  Congrats on the W with Millsie. Nick is the only captain this year to not have a previous title under his belt and its showing.   Don't bet on the Ego on Saturday mornings! The youngin's are asserting themselve,s but a few of the old guard still know how to win.  Especially in TSTB's. Round 3 will reveal who had the best draft middle on down.  Time to get some more players involved. Being on the IR during Bentleague is more painf...
