The Last Match

Bring It vs            BFAM
JA / Jennings      take down           Dave / Burt         6-4,6-3

Big John back in the win column paired up with Jennings.  Bring it faithful heard saying KennyWho on the sidelines.  Good shot making on both sides of the net but when BigJohn is on watch out.

Ferr/Ray              loses to                 Hunt / Keller      6-1,6-1

Ouch!  My how the mighty have fallen.  Super Ray and Ferr dining on the double bread stick a surprise result.  JudgeInWaiting and Hunt racking up some wins to keep BFAM respectable.  At least John knows where is draft went wrong.

Tyler/Billy            lose to  Chris/Shane       6-1,6-2
Another lopsided loss for Bring it.  New duo of Tyler and FreeWilly a failed experiment.  Tyler trying to take a Nickish step up in competition is not quite ready for prime time.  Tough match up for the newbie to line 3.  Steady diet of Shane’s forehand and net play with Kobrock’s topspin revealed predictable results.  Good learning experience for the ditch and dive waffle house most wanted.

Andrew/Skip     lose to Jawn/ Seth          6-4,6-3
How the hell did Andrew and Skip lose this one.  I know Keto Jawn don’t miss but geez….6pm match up must have had Andrew’s stomach growling and he couldn’t focus on tennis.  You can’t beat Keto Jawn with errors and witnessed too many from the Bring It pair.  Would think crazy eye’d Seth would have seen a few more balls in this one.  Burrito McQuaid come on.  You are better than that.  Skip too good to go down in straights.  Tell Bev to pack some snacks when you have a 6pm match.

Ryan / George   go down to         Hal / Blossman  6-0,7-5
Bruce would be disappointed.  Geritol two go down in straights.  Is that first set score correct?  I’ll tell you what…Jaybird Blossman may be the worst practice player in warm ups I have ever seen, but once the match starts this guy steps it up big time.  Shoulder coming into shape eh Jay.  Doc Neitzsch racking up W’s (it seems) on Line 4 and 5 inflating WonLoss percentage pretty evident.  Could have been picked at least two spots higher.

BFAM secures 2nd place and makes 2nd set of matches meaningless.

B III Ball Busters vs            Hall of Framers

Buddy/Brad        lost to   Jon / Mesa          7-6,7-5

Thanks Jon…the Brad winning streak is over.  Inflated ego now put back in check.  You also got Mesa off the snide.  All Mesa needed for a win with Jon and the clay.  Scores were close, and when I see that I always put my money opposite Brad.  Wish that SOB played more than 5 matches ehh Jeffro.

B III / Fair             beat       Jeff / Butcher     6-4,6-2,6-0
Assume that is a typo commish.  I don’t think it was that close.  Confirmed with the Ego. 6-4,6-2.  Jeff and Butcher lose in two.  Can’t wait to do a deep dive into the year-end stats.  Talk about the mighty falling.  I vaguely remember Jeffro winning all but one last year.   This year….very different.  At least we now know who the best captain on the tennis court was.  Don’t think this guy lost to anyone but Jon.

Nick / Robby      goes down to     Greg / Tony        4-6,7-5,1-0
Was this a loser leave town match like back in the Mid -South Wrestling days.  Quoting Ernie Ladd…. When there is cheese on the moon you better bring your crackers.  This was a Donnie Brook from the onset with hay makers coming from all angles.  Contrasting styles, a team in tights, a hurt wrist, and a repaired groin highlighted the outing on court 5.  In the end it was the team in tights, getting the hard earned win.  Tricky Nicky lived up to the billing.  ADHD Robby, although not 100%, answered with a few overheads even one that he now regrets.  GeeKo Gordo righted the ship after a shaky start to volley numerous winners at the net and the Price of the Parish was Princely as usual.  The “Hello” nightmares won’t last forever Tricky.  But, that down the line shot to win the 2nd set may stay with you till B VI.    Undefeated no more my friend.  At least you paid your bill at waffle house.

Jonathan / McDou           go down against               Fred / Doug        6-1,7-6
Damn BillyMac.  No win for you!  Glad to get Freddy into the win column though.  MinimumMatchFreddy always a pleasure to see.  Dude either really likes his wife, hates the heckling of Bentleague, or has a Shades of Grey red room at his house and gets tied up every thursday.  I also recall Doug having a titles to his name so glad to see him all gimpy on gummies getting a win.  Even though it was against 1 win Mr. Irrelevant.

Cayman / Burgess            lost to   Sumner / Mitch 6-3,6-4

Sorry Cannon, Steve (not to be confused with Buse) Burgess is no Jon.  Chalk up another hollow win for Hall of Framers.  Nice win for Svelte Mitch and BringBackSumner.  Cannon not happy with the result but these guys have paired up for victories before so don’t hang your head.  At least you got the Beau Chen Championship trophy on your mantel.

We’ll keep the recap brief.  Need to get started on my deep dive analysis of the season.

Congrats to B III’s Ball Busters!  32 Lines Won vs. 30 for 2nd place BFAM.

They are crowned Bentleague V Champions!!

Kudos to all who played.  Hope everyone had a fun time.  We are lucky and blessed to have such a good group of friends and acquaintances.  We compete, heckle, and mostly have a good time while playing pretty competitive tennis.  Well everyone but Eskine and Caston.  Not many tennis groups can rag on each other like we do and then go out for beers and triple dippers.

Bentleague X: The Sequel Draft Recap

Bentleague X: The Sequel Draft Recap   Not for the faint of heart…back by popular demand…here is the St. Bernard Swami’s recap of the Bentleague X Draft.   First things first, this is an unbiased take on the captain’s picks and how the teams fared out on draft night.   As the ombudsman of Bentleague you can count on an unbiased evaluation of each team from top to bottom.   Congrats to the Commish for finally getting rid of the cockamamie scoring system that favored top picks more than late round selections.   This is an inclusive league for all PAC members, and a win by Rockin Toupsie or Josh (Mr. Irrelevant) should be just as much as a win by Russ “Don’t call me Russell” Anderson.   Wait…did Josh win any Bentleague matches last year?   I digress…on to the team draft grades. Drafting in the number one position was Hairy Hal Neitzschman aka. Spin Doctors II.   No surprise here with Russ going first overall.   Clear #1 by everyon...

Bentleague Blog/Vlog 10/22/2025 - Round 2 Match 2 and 3

I'll BE BACK! Going with the VLOG to recap match 2 and 3 of Round 2. https://youtu.be/rLpJlQK81UM? feature=shared --- Here are a couple of parting shots as I go to the IR: Sensei Kobrock will live in Bentleague infamy for having a person who was in Germany in the line up. Grant is still winless!  How is this even possible with those fundamentals. Rudy is working hard to fulfill third round expectations...finally gets in the Win column and it only took five matches! Old Knees Harvey should not complain about being at line 6.  Congrats on the W with Millsie. Nick is the only captain this year to not have a previous title under his belt and its showing.   Don't bet on the Ego on Saturday mornings! The youngin's are asserting themselve,s but a few of the old guard still know how to win.  Especially in TSTB's. Round 3 will reveal who had the best draft middle on down.  Time to get some more players involved. Being on the IR during Bentleague is more painf...
