B VI Blog è Week 2 Summary (..and you thought the cockamamie weighted scoring system would prevent conceding Line 1)

Tyler Harper

Doug Autin

vs

Dave Gazeley

Kenny Otillio

6-2, 6-2

Valiant effort by Ditch and Dive Harper and Bogalusa Doug.  Although overmatched in this one, experience may pay dividends later in the year when they resume rightful placement at Line 5.  Easy debut for Gaelic Gazeley.

Buddy Newton

Ray Brouillette

vs

Brad Humphreys

Ed Dautrive

6-3, 3-6, 1-0

Entertaining feature match as Dr. Death and Brad rise to the occasion in crucial third set.  Rough debut for Sir Isaac against his former partner in crime.  Early double fault in the tie breaker will haunt Newton for a while and may have contributed to some play it safe kick serves towards the end.  He did however take the racket toss title away from the Red Baron with a nice one over the fence.  Longgggg Walk of shame to the rubico courts and having to listen to Brad like salt on an open wound.

Mark Fair

Hunt Vaughn

vs

Mark Ferrer

Ronny Regouffre

7-6, 6-4

Bruised ego gets his first win with effUHunt pairing.  Welcome to the W column Fair.  Even if it was at line 3 second rounder.  Second loss for this BSS twosome has Captain Shane hoping Burt’s Ecuador Elbow Rehab will bring him back to PAC Tennis sooner rather than later.

Addison

Jawn Priola

vs

Skip Scoggin

Ananth Desik

6-1, 6-1

Easy pickings for Captain Addi and Jawn Precision Priola.  Swami checked this one out for a bit and once I seen the Left-Handed Indian hitting cut shots short against P-squared I knew it would be over in no time.  Hit that big forehand Ananth!.  You can’t win pushing against a pusher.

Greg Gorden

Bill Spiess

vs

Jonathan Robinson

Shane

6-3, 2-6, 1-0

Wake up call for SmackEnroe pairing of Gordo and Spiess.  Prior week’s loss to Hefty Lefty and Kobrock is understandable.  But a 7 and 8 losing to a 15 and Captain Come Back.  Congrats goes to Mr. Robinson for getting first Bentleague victory without a Caston on the other side of the net.  Played really well too.  Seen some crisp volley’s from the athletic youngster.  Swami believes the St. Bernard Barb’s Blog may have factored into some of those off-center hits from SmackenRoe duo.  No other way to justify this defeat.   Come back Shane and line 5 may be a match made in heaven for the rest of B VI.

Big Swinging Sticks 11, SmackenRoe 5

Jon Buise

Jacques Peltier

Vs.

Steven Burgess

Dave McGuire

6-1, 6-0

Another line 1 concede.  Welcome back to Bentleague Dave….meet your opponent tonight Mr. Jon “ he played Davis Cup” Buise and his partner the surprisingly good second rounder Jacques Peltier.  Congrats on winning one game.

Travis Smith

Donald Allen

Vs.

John Allen

B III

2-6, 6-2, 1-0

Battle of the brothers won by Mr. Rehash.  Take that Big Honey Suckle.  The Donald playing with a chip on his shoulder after getting picked four spots below his little brother. Tail of two sets decided by the dreaded tie breaker.  Swami usually like B III in tie breakers but this Tavis guy is a difference maker.  Not sure if The Donald wins this one without Traveling Travis.

Jeff Thompson

Steve Jacobs

Vs.

Brent Saba

Nick

7-6, 7-6

I went 5-0 with Jacobs last year Jeffro.  Just saying.  Good win for the FOY Captain too.  Paired with Saba earns hard fought win as The Tooth continues to move up on the FOY depth chart.  Game Plan almost works for Tricky Nicky as only line 2 disappoints.

Chris Kobrock

Kevin Phayer

Vs.

Tony Priola

Jay Butcher

6-4, 6-4

Chalk up another Priola victory over Commissioner Phayer.  This one was Close though.  A lot of close games as The Donald would say.  Swami says Momentum turned on a couple of left handers by the Prince of the Parish.  In the end, the team that was supposed to win pulled it out.

Jared and Rocky

Vs.

Mitch and Robbie

2,4

Two matches two victories for FOY twosome.  Svelt Mitch and ADHD Robbie showing versatility for their captain while pairing with multiple teammates and racking up W’s.  Nice players to have on a roster will provide flexibility for Tricky as meat of the season commences.  Strong line 5 for FOY and too many errors for Marauder spelled doom early and often.

3 out of 5 again, but FOY lose on points.

Marauders 9, FOY 7

Summary / total points:

Big Swinging Sticks 20

Fountain of Youth 14

 Marauders 21

SmackEnroe 9

If you see this Man - Burrito McQuaid hide your fingers!!!

Bentleague X: The Sequel Draft Recap

Bentleague X: The Sequel Draft Recap   Not for the faint of heart…back by popular demand…here is the St. Bernard Swami’s recap of the Bentleague X Draft.   First things first, this is an unbiased take on the captain’s picks and how the teams fared out on draft night.   As the ombudsman of Bentleague you can count on an unbiased evaluation of each team from top to bottom.   Congrats to the Commish for finally getting rid of the cockamamie scoring system that favored top picks more than late round selections.   This is an inclusive league for all PAC members, and a win by Rockin Toupsie or Josh (Mr. Irrelevant) should be just as much as a win by Russ “Don’t call me Russell” Anderson.   Wait…did Josh win any Bentleague matches last year?   I digress…on to the team draft grades. Drafting in the number one position was Hairy Hal Neitzschman aka. Spin Doctors II.   No surprise here with Russ going first overall.   Clear #1 by everyon...

Bentleague Blog/Vlog 10/22/2025 - Round 2 Match 2 and 3

I'll BE BACK! Going with the VLOG to recap match 2 and 3 of Round 2. https://youtu.be/rLpJlQK81UM? feature=shared --- Here are a couple of parting shots as I go to the IR: Sensei Kobrock will live in Bentleague infamy for having a person who was in Germany in the line up. Grant is still winless!  How is this even possible with those fundamentals. Rudy is working hard to fulfill third round expectations...finally gets in the Win column and it only took five matches! Old Knees Harvey should not complain about being at line 6.  Congrats on the W with Millsie. Nick is the only captain this year to not have a previous title under his belt and its showing.   Don't bet on the Ego on Saturday mornings! The youngin's are asserting themselve,s but a few of the old guard still know how to win.  Especially in TSTB's. Round 3 will reveal who had the best draft middle on down.  Time to get some more players involved. Being on the IR during Bentleague is more painf...
