Match Recap

10/2/2021

Lumber Jocks     vs           One Bourbon

Brad / Chris                       Billy / Robby      2-6,6-2,1-0

Betleague loves three setters.  And Racket throwing.  Brad may have lost the match, but he is leading in the clubhouse for longest racket throw.  Unless Jay Butcher’s forearm heals Brad may get title number five in racket throwing vs. the coveted Bentleague title.  Swami not exactly sure why Brad kept cutting off balls from Mr. topspin and hitting them into the net, but…, in the end that led to their downfall and helped Swami’s team close the gap on LJ’s.  Nice playing by Free Willy and nice to see Robby back in the win column after a tough loss on Thursday.

Ferrer / Schneider           Bentley / Mesa 1-6,7-5,1-0

Talk about stealing a victory out of the jaws of defeat.  Down 9-5 in another 3rd set nail biter team One Bourbon forgot how they got the lead in the first place.  This one had onlookers scratching their heads (especially Captain Paulie).  Someone please ask El Cubano why he kept testing Sly, especially in the tie breaker.  Big win for Mr. Hustle and Sly Schneider.  Shake and Bake observers not happy with this upset.  Old knees Harvey should have called a time out to talk to his partner.  Basically, an 8-point swing for LJ’s that may prove pivotal in final standings. Someone should have called for a 10-minute injury time out to stop the come from behind madness.

Bo / Travis                         Kenny / Dave     6-2,6-2

The Baron and Gazely are hitting their stride as we close out round 2.  Swami witnessed “Keep it away from Bo” game plan executed to perfection. Battle of the accents won by the Smirking Gaelic gives first loss to B VII’s number one draft pick.  May want to check on Mr. Ed’s rehab... if Bo knows what’s best other wise game plan will be shared.

Ananth / Dave P              Ed / Hunt            6-0,6-1

Ouch. MIA Hunt back on the courts finds favorable match up paired with Dr. Death against Nice Guy Dave and Bentleague’s Main Indian.  Tall order playing against this line team Ananth so please sign up again soon.  We enjoy seeing you out there if know your captain keeps sacrificing your line.

Jeff / Schwartz                 Rocky / Cameron            6-2,6-2

Another tough match up.  I thought the scoring system was supposed to force captains to play em’ straight.  This loss easier to swallow for Rock vs. his Thursday night loss but he still didn’t look like a happy camper.  Although they did get one more game than the LJ pair mentioned above on court 7.  Young Cameron and Rocky take it on the chin and Hefty Lefty and Sergeant Schwartz enjoy an easy one.   Sneaky grins observed from the ugly shirt wearing lefty and Mike as they walked back to the main group from the clay after padding the stats with an easy W.  Cat…meet canary.

10 – 6 One Bourbon (but it could/should have been 14-2… Skipper lucky to get 6)

Shake and Bake               vs.         Harper Valley PTA

Tony / Kevin                     Ronny / Hal        4-6,6-1,1-0

Did someone say Golden Tie Breaker.  10-Oh.  10 - Nil.  Not one point.  YES. YES. YES. YES.  Really could/should have been 6-0, 10-0!  Shake and Bake put the hammer down in the 2nd set and didn’t let up.  Mindset was “put your foot on their neck and keep it there”.  After a close first set, normalcy restored as Tony-5-point and the Shyster handle business at line 1 AGAIN.  Speaking of, if the matches are all best of three and all take approximately 1.5 or 2 hours to complete why should some be worth more in the final standings than others.  Ronny, you should have stayed with us on Friday instead of going home and to bed early.  Couple of long games and points in that first set really paid dividends later and the Harper Valley squad looked tired late.  May need to arrange a side match against the Mouth of Mandeville and Kobrock to get those 5 points back.

Gordo / Josh                     Tyler / Burgess  6-3,6-4

This Dine and Dash Captain keeps penciling in his own name.  Like his gumption but results have Swami questioning motive.  And with the third round coming, he’ll be for the next three too.  And…what about this Josh guy making folks forget about Mandeville Jawn.  Playing six days a week is paying off Josh, keep it up.  Nice win for Shake and Back to gain 4 on front runners.  Gordo Gecko and Jerrico Josh a tandem to watch moving forward.  LA tech Steve and Double D kept it close but four points for the good guys in the end.  Good win at Line 1 and 2 for Shake and Bake.  I foresee more Old-Fashioned drink’ s in their future.  Speaking of….

Buddy / Fair                      Jon / Russell       6-3,2-6,1-0

I knew this twosome had it in them.  Hello!  Impressive win for Shake and Back pseudo line 1 against formidable pairing of Juan and Russ.  Real confidence builder moving forward for the happy hour threesome.  Also, nice to win some of these tie breakers for a change.  Impressive audience brought forth by skinny legs Anderson.   Swami was impressed with the costumes.  As a side note, may be time to add a leg day to that workout routine.

Ray / Donald                     Brent / Addis     3-6,6-2,1-0

5.0 Addi and Saba-Tuth do it again.  Swami says this is a team to be reckoned with and we reach the mid-way point.  Swami witnessed too much athleticism on one side and too many birthdays on the other.  Swami happy to see them get a set but confidence needs to improve for points to come on the crucial points.

Peter /  Zipp                     Shane / Nick      6-1,6-3

Paper meets reality as Shane and Nick take it in straights.  Hey Commish…, what happens if a team doesn’t play every four times?  Sooner or later, we’ll have to see some of these other players on the court for HVPTA.  Tired of seeing Juan, Russell, Addi, Shane and Brent every match!  I’ll sure we’ll cross that bridge soon with the published rules of round 3.  Swami has a feeling depth will prevail and pre-season predictions will be realized.

12-4 Shake and Bake (take top three lines for some much-needed points)

Great Saturday morning with 5 third set tie break matches!  So far 60 lines played and 29 tie breakers!

Two rounds complete and it's tightened up a bit in the standings!

Bentleague X: The Sequel Draft Recap

Bentleague X: The Sequel Draft Recap   Not for the faint of heart…back by popular demand…here is the St. Bernard Swami’s recap of the Bentleague X Draft.   First things first, this is an unbiased take on the captain’s picks and how the teams fared out on draft night.   As the ombudsman of Bentleague you can count on an unbiased evaluation of each team from top to bottom.   Congrats to the Commish for finally getting rid of the cockamamie scoring system that favored top picks more than late round selections.   This is an inclusive league for all PAC members, and a win by Rockin Toupsie or Josh (Mr. Irrelevant) should be just as much as a win by Russ “Don’t call me Russell” Anderson.   Wait…did Josh win any Bentleague matches last year?   I digress…on to the team draft grades. Drafting in the number one position was Hairy Hal Neitzschman aka. Spin Doctors II.   No surprise here with Russ going first overall.   Clear #1 by everyon...

Bentleague Blog/Vlog 10/22/2025 - Round 2 Match 2 and 3

I'll BE BACK! Going with the VLOG to recap match 2 and 3 of Round 2. https://youtu.be/rLpJlQK81UM? feature=shared --- Here are a couple of parting shots as I go to the IR: Sensei Kobrock will live in Bentleague infamy for having a person who was in Germany in the line up. Grant is still winless!  How is this even possible with those fundamentals. Rudy is working hard to fulfill third round expectations...finally gets in the Win column and it only took five matches! Old Knees Harvey should not complain about being at line 6.  Congrats on the W with Millsie. Nick is the only captain this year to not have a previous title under his belt and its showing.   Don't bet on the Ego on Saturday mornings! The youngin's are asserting themselve,s but a few of the old guard still know how to win.  Especially in TSTB's. Round 3 will reveal who had the best draft middle on down.  Time to get some more players involved. Being on the IR during Bentleague is more painf...
