Weekly Recap

10/7/2021

Sorry boys…doing this one on the governments time so I’ll keep it quick.  Raise the damn debt ceiling already…Swami needs his paycheck!

Lumber Jocks     vs           Shake and Bake

Skip / Kobrock                   Doug / Kevin       6-3,3-6,1-0

One Hip Wonder pulls a Wes Unseld and battles through achilles/lower calf injury in the third game of the match to help secure win for Shake and Bake Captain.  Bogalusa Doug says round three is his time to shine and issues “loser leaves town” challenge to other captains.  Not a good sign for Paulie come Saturday.  Punky Phayer putting in his MVP bid with another gutsy performance securing another 5 for team SB.  I need a stat guy Commish…Punky may have individual point lead over Bo now with another line 1 win.

Ferrer / Travis                   Fair / Gordo        3-6,6-3,1-0

This one wasn’t without controversy.  And all in the third set tie breaker.  Did the ball hit Ferr’s racket or not…before the spiritual gangsta’s winner?  Did Gordo’s shoestring save bounce twice before Shake and Bake ultimately won the point?  Don’t ask Burrito McQuaid because rumor has it, he is the king of the double bounce save.  Hard fought match by all four of these competitors.

Bo / Jennings                     Buddy / Tim        5-7,6-3,1-0

Witnessed some good tennis next to me on Ct. 5 with these four.  Also nice to see Tim back on the court.  If he could earn Shake and Bake some points it would be even better.    May have witnessed the best one hand back hand in Bentleague history against a Buddy serve in the Tie breaker.  Young looking Mr. Ed(ney) and Being Bo Markovic rise to the occasion and take it in three.

Schwartz / Butcher                         Donald / Ray      4-6,6-4,1-0

Another nail biter for crowd favorites Donald and Ray.  Nice to see them finally prevail too although spoiling the Candlestick makers Bentleague VII debut.  Glad the forearm held up Jay Butch.  Swami sensed a little frustration with the crowd from Sergeant Schwartz.  Don’t worry Mike, we’ll be cheering for you against HVPTA on Saturday.  Swami also glad TB score didn’t get to 9-6 for Shake and Bake.  Gris Gris gods were kind this go round.

Persons / Mike O                            Tony / Thomas   6-3,6-4

Sweet swinging lefty also made his B VII debut on Thursday for Shake and Bake.  Also nice to be paired with the Saint of St. Bernard while he is on a three match winning streak.  Swami impressed with the Silver Fox’s strokes but in the end not enough offense to threaten the more athletic and versatile Shake and Bake twosome.  No Offense Mike. Must be the socks.  Wear em' high and Dominate Domingues!

Harper Valley PTA           vs           One Bourbon

Tyler / Mitch                     Paul / Billy          3-6,6-3,1-0

Who is Paulie going to blame for this one?  Geez!  I have a feeling this is going to be a long round for the vocally challenged Captain.  Toking Tyler steps it up while paired with the best left hander at PAC and sets the tone for the first sweep of Bentleague VII.

Addison / Andrew                           Ed / Bentley       2-6,6-2,1-0

Swami impressed with the athleticism of three out of the four players on CT. 4 during this match up.  5.0 Addi continuing to impress while racking up wins with varying partners.  One point in particular stood out as 5.0 Addi went head-to-head with Clean Arms Ed. And won it after at least 15 shots.  Old knees Harvey again on the wrong side of another 11-9  tie breaker.

Jon / Russell                      Kenny / Dave     7-6,6-2

Seen this one ending differently.  Early on Juan looked tired and chicken legs Russ looked out of sorts.  Talk about righting the ship.  Juan became Jon and seemed to know where the other team was hitting it before contact was made.  And “I never miss leg day” Anderson went head-to-head with the gray shirt wearing Baron and won most of them.  Odd Gray Shirt Number 17 wasn’t too kind to Kenny on this night and late shirt change did not change the outcome to Swami’s dismay.  Damn…Shake and Bake needed this one to go the other way.

Brent / Ronny                   Burt / Jacobs      7-5,6-3

Welcome back Burt!  Meet MVP candidate Brent Saba-Tuth!  Swami witnessed complementary play form his partner, but the difference maker in this match was Saba.  That and frequent flyer weak knees Dalton.   JK, Burt.  Enjoy the honeymoon stage of your new marriage.  You’ll be back on the tennis court four days a week soon.

Nick / Sid                            Toups / Rabon   6-2,6-1

Did the HVPTA Captain put his third-round pick at line 5.  Hope you feel good about yourself Tricky.  This team is solid up front and if they get to play their top eight every match, they’ll be tough to catch.  Pretty impressive none the less to take all five while resting Shane.  Oh wait…they did play Eskine’s team, so put an asterisk by this broom sweep.  Anyone seen weary legs Lacoste or Folkins?

Harper Valley PTA           16           One Bourbon  0

Lagniappe

Have a feeling One Bourbon’s play and roster will be key to who wins Bentleague V II.  Reminds me of Addi’s team last year.  Get your points against them and hold the rope against everyone else.  Effing Paul!

Effing cockamamie scoring system!

Commissioner’s Corner:

Gents,   Great night again with 6 of 10 matches going to third set tiebreakers!  It's shaping up to be a three-horse race although still enough time for One Bourbon to make a run at it!  Speaking of that Paul informs me that Hunt has resigned from the league so he has ask Blair to replace him.  No response yet so I'll keep you posted on that replacement.

Bentleague X: The Sequel Draft Recap

Bentleague X: The Sequel Draft Recap   Not for the faint of heart…back by popular demand…here is the St. Bernard Swami’s recap of the Bentleague X Draft.   First things first, this is an unbiased take on the captain’s picks and how the teams fared out on draft night.   As the ombudsman of Bentleague you can count on an unbiased evaluation of each team from top to bottom.   Congrats to the Commish for finally getting rid of the cockamamie scoring system that favored top picks more than late round selections.   This is an inclusive league for all PAC members, and a win by Rockin Toupsie or Josh (Mr. Irrelevant) should be just as much as a win by Russ “Don’t call me Russell” Anderson.   Wait…did Josh win any Bentleague matches last year?   I digress…on to the team draft grades. Drafting in the number one position was Hairy Hal Neitzschman aka. Spin Doctors II.   No surprise here with Russ going first overall.   Clear #1 by everyon...

Bentleague Blog/Vlog 10/22/2025 - Round 2 Match 2 and 3

I'll BE BACK! Going with the VLOG to recap match 2 and 3 of Round 2. https://youtu.be/rLpJlQK81UM? feature=shared --- Here are a couple of parting shots as I go to the IR: Sensei Kobrock will live in Bentleague infamy for having a person who was in Germany in the line up. Grant is still winless!  How is this even possible with those fundamentals. Rudy is working hard to fulfill third round expectations...finally gets in the Win column and it only took five matches! Old Knees Harvey should not complain about being at line 6.  Congrats on the W with Millsie. Nick is the only captain this year to not have a previous title under his belt and its showing.   Don't bet on the Ego on Saturday mornings! The youngin's are asserting themselve,s but a few of the old guard still know how to win.  Especially in TSTB's. Round 3 will reveal who had the best draft middle on down.  Time to get some more players involved. Being on the IR during Bentleague is more painf...
