Weekly Recap

Matches from 11/18/2021

Scores:

One Bourbon     vs.          Harper Valley PTA

Kenny / Dave                    Russell / Brent   7-6.6-2

Watched the first set and it was close.  Just a couple of miscues by the Baron.  What the hell happened in the 2nd?  Sabatuth stepping it up in Juan’s absence and Russell chalking up some W’s putting a smile on Tokin Tyler’s absent face.

JA / Parnell                         Addison / Roberto           7-6,6-3

Big Honeysuckle on a nice winning streak finally erasing last year’s debacle.  Again, a very close first set takes some steam out of young Addi’s sails.  From Swami’s view, Sundial Groeneveld had the game to compete which is a lot to ask from a 12th rounder.  Captain Toker preferred to put his third-round pick (Tricky) at line 3 which cost him 4 and had the Swami and most scratching their heads.

Billy / Robby                      Ronny / Nick      4-6,6-4,6-1

6-1 in the third after two close sets.  Commish’s rules for round 5 testing endurance and mental fortitude for Bentleaguers.  Looks like the impressive start fizzled for the hard hitting Economedies and Free Willy and/or Tricky finally started hitting some of those full out forehands into the court.

Mesa / Burt                       Folkins / Sid        7-5,6-1

Captain Paulie finally gets to put the Latin/Cuban tandem together and good results follow.  Impressed with first set score stop fooling around Folkins and Senor’ Sid.  Swami knows Senor’s forehand can be lethal…but I was really impressed with the grit of Folkins.  The dude competes.  In the end the better team on paper prevailed.

Cameron / Rabon                           Hal / Lacoste      6-2,7-5

Weary Legs may have broken a racket if this W would have gotten away.  Shallow Hal too consistent and trickly with those cutters to let that happen.  Round Rabon and Calamity Cam made it respectable in the 2nd but that little consolation.  Pairings in round 5 making it interesting heading down the stretch as teams strive to get everyone their allotted matches.

HIVPTA 10-6

Shake and Bake               vs.         Lumber Jocks

Vic / Thomas                     Bo / Jennings      6-0,6-2

Bogalusa Doug pulls the old switch-a-roo on Gilligan’s Pal for the line 1 feature.  Shake and Bake Throw-out a big Eff U to the cockamamie scoring system right in front of Old Knees himself.  Vicious Vic and the sweet swinging lefty take one for the team against the total point front runner Bo Fucking Markovic and the Rodney Dangerfield of Bentleague VII Mr. Ed(ney).  Swami loves the fact that they got two games.  Just hoping the Vicious one doesn’t quit on his captain and gets his fourth match in!

Buddy / Fair                      Butcher / Travis 6-0,6-1

Say what!  Bagel and a breadstick for the Spiritual Gangsta and the Candlestick Maker?  Are you telling me Vic and Thomas got more games vs. Being Bo than these two got against Buddy the Elf and the Ego?  It goes without saying that Captain Shake and Bake had his THC grin on early on as lines 2-5 each won the first set.  Plan almost worked to perfection but more on that later.  Have to admit, this one surprised me.  Not the final result, but the final score…did notice an early departure from the pink hat front runner so the score or the cold weather may have played a part.

BIII / Peter                          Brad / Kobrock   6-4,6-3

Welcome to Bentleague VII B III.  You now have more points earned for Shake and Bake than your replacement.  All kidding aside…hope all is well on the home front Dr. Tim.  Mouth of Mandeville distancing his chances of title five with outputs like this.  Swami assumes too much fire power at the net for the base liner to mount serious challenge as TCH grin widens on Bogalusa.

Tony / Gorde                     Mount / Mike O               6-0,6-1

And for the third installment…Captain America and Gordo Geeko take down the Trumpeter and Angry Mike.  Another Bagel and a Breadstick for THC Chin.  Game plan being executed to perfect…until…

Kevin / Eddie                     Jeff / Blossman  6-7,6-3,6-2

Gilligan’s pal inserts his sixth rounder at line 5 with the French Fry Loving Purple Shirt wearing Blossman.   Swami thought Shake and Bake had it after winning the very close 1st set.  Then…Hefty Lefty got his groove on and JB dialed in those wind aided lobs.  Except for a couple of lazy volleys, this match was won by JB and Jeffro and not lost by Fast Eddie and the Squirrel.  Match of the night in Swami’s view and great playing by the Lumber Jock twosome.  Just wish they were at line 4.

Shake and Bake 9-7

Lagniappe:

Shake and Bake by 1 as of this publication over HIVPTA as they move into 2nd while LJ’s fall to third.  Key will be points earned against OBOBOW moving forward with two to play.

Commissioner’s Corner:

Gents,  Good matches last night starting the last round with full third sets!  Captains strategies in action as Doug slides one to capture victory.  Still some players needing matches and I updated that list on the who paid tab of the spread sheet.  Two matches to go and still tight race!

See everyone Saturday morning.  Bundle up!

Happy Friday!

Bentleague X: The Sequel Draft Recap

Bentleague X: The Sequel Draft Recap   Not for the faint of heart…back by popular demand…here is the St. Bernard Swami’s recap of the Bentleague X Draft.   First things first, this is an unbiased take on the captain’s picks and how the teams fared out on draft night.   As the ombudsman of Bentleague you can count on an unbiased evaluation of each team from top to bottom.   Congrats to the Commish for finally getting rid of the cockamamie scoring system that favored top picks more than late round selections.   This is an inclusive league for all PAC members, and a win by Rockin Toupsie or Josh (Mr. Irrelevant) should be just as much as a win by Russ “Don’t call me Russell” Anderson.   Wait…did Josh win any Bentleague matches last year?   I digress…on to the team draft grades. Drafting in the number one position was Hairy Hal Neitzschman aka. Spin Doctors II.   No surprise here with Russ going first overall.   Clear #1 by everyon...

Bentleague Blog/Vlog 10/22/2025 - Round 2 Match 2 and 3

I'll BE BACK! Going with the VLOG to recap match 2 and 3 of Round 2. https://youtu.be/rLpJlQK81UM? feature=shared --- Here are a couple of parting shots as I go to the IR: Sensei Kobrock will live in Bentleague infamy for having a person who was in Germany in the line up. Grant is still winless!  How is this even possible with those fundamentals. Rudy is working hard to fulfill third round expectations...finally gets in the Win column and it only took five matches! Old Knees Harvey should not complain about being at line 6.  Congrats on the W with Millsie. Nick is the only captain this year to not have a previous title under his belt and its showing.   Don't bet on the Ego on Saturday mornings! The youngin's are asserting themselve,s but a few of the old guard still know how to win.  Especially in TSTB's. Round 3 will reveal who had the best draft middle on down.  Time to get some more players involved. Being on the IR during Bentleague is more painf...
