Weekly Recap

from 11/20/21 Matches

(Turkey Day Edition)

Scores:

One Bourbon     vs           Shake and Bake

Kenny / Burt                      Fair / Buddy        6-2, 4-6, 6-4

Whoa!  This one was important!!  Comfortable first set W followed by surprising 2nd set loss.  Throw in a couple of mis hit winners and you have Shake and Back down a break in the crucial third.  Add in an untimely double and its back to Ecuador for the Tinder King and coaching the 3.0 players for the Baron.

JA / Parnell                         Ray / Peter          6-4,6-3

This one was over before it started.  Well at least we know who won’t be partners in the crucial end-of-the-year match-ups.  Big Honeysuckle on a nice winning streak happy to have dodged the Prince on Veterans day.  Paired with Puff Daddy Parnell this twosome a nice edition to OBOBOW making folks forget about the sleeveless butt doctor.

Steve / Bentley                 Tony / Donald    6-3,6-3

Almost had a bagel for Thanksgiving.  Denied by the tanned one and old knees himself shows these two have some fight left in them even though the outcome was never really in doubt.  Well at least until The Donald tweaked his tender hamstring.  Made for a nerve-racking 2nd until the ship was righted.  Ho-Hum 3 and 3 to secure 3points for the two-point mainstay.

Rabon / Todd                    Doug / Eddie      3-6,7-6,7-6

Definitely, the match up of the early bird 8am ‘ers.  Swami saw two matches that started at 930am actually finish before this 2.5 hour marathon.  Talk about a roller coaster.  Glad I kept the faith!  Up 4-1 in the 2nd team Shake and Bake let the Round Mound of Rabon and Todd the wet sprocket have hope by gifting them the 2nd.  Actually, some beautiful forehand rally’s from Fast Eddie and Charismatic Chris.  Question became who would blink first and actually poach for a winner.  No one did by the way!  2nd set tie breaker follow-ed by a full third followed by another 3rd set tie breaker ended with the crowd rushing the court to salute the Shake and Bake win.  Not even going to mention the match point sitter Toad had in the third that went into the net!

Toups / Billy                      Thomas / Jared  6-2,6-2

Post-match commentary from bystanders said Jared and the sweet swinging lefty didn’t miss which of course spelled doom for Free Willy and Rockin Toupsie.  Swami thought the more consistent duo would keep it closer, but as the old adage says…you can’t bring a knife to a gun fight.  Or in this case, a 3.0 to a 3.5+ match up.  Sorry Toupsie.

Shake and Bake               12-4

Harper Valley PTA           vs           Lumber Jocks

Tyler / Burgess                  Bo / Travis           6-0,6-1

The sacrifice continues.  If you can’t beat em’ throw the line.  Strategy pays off for HIVPTA as it did last week for SandB.  In retrospect, thinking Bo could have won with Jeff , Butcher, or Schwartz and LJ’s should have put Taz with Jennings.  Damn Skippy…bet you wish you had this one as a do-over.  Either way…another 5 (2.5 as Ferr would say) for Bo.

Russell / Brent                  Jennings / Schwartz         6-3,5-7,6-4

Brent is the Chris Carter of Bentleague.  All he does is score touch downs.  Wait…wrong sport.  Has this guy missed a match?  Rivaling Bo for MVP honors if it weren’t for the stupid 5 pt. line 1 BS.  Stepping it up in Juan’s absence once again doing his part to ensure HIVPTA don’t miss a beat as we near the finale.  Swami and Tokin Tyler know that Nick and Addi wouldn’t rise-up and beat Jennings.  Fine tennis for the onlookers with the crowd wondering if Mr. Ed(ney) was up to the task without his favorite partner Being Bo Markovic.  Good three setter and may have been the match of the day if not for the line 5 see saw witnessed on court three.

Nick / Addison                  Jeff / Kobrock     6-4,6-4

4 and 4 about what Swami would have predicted.  Too much youth and athleticism on the HVPTA side of the net for the LJ pairing to compete.  You can’t stay back on these two IMO, you have to initiate the points and take over the net.  Swami thinks a Monday night reunion may be in order for the finale to keep things interesting.  Only twosome I see in the match-ups to match athleticism and competitiveness of this HIVPTA twosome.  Just throwing it out there!

Shane / Ronny                  Butcher / Ferrer                6-0,6-3

Stop the madness!  What’s all this talk about Shane has the quickest hands, he’s more athletic than he looks, he replaced Brad at shortstop for the Colleen’s as a freshman (because he could hit)…Let’s give Ronny some credit and stop saying he’s carrying his partner to W’s.  Goof is 4 and 2 and only two (50%) of his wins came with Shane.  This guy is a good player and its about time others around the league give him the credit he deserves.  He even won one with Nick (not easy to do) and Svelte Mitch?.  I know…I know….His captain benched him for all of the third round!  That was the forced match up round and Ronny has a clause in his contract where he picks his partners.  This guy is underrated, ender appreciated, and a winner!  Just ask him!!  A little surprised by the bagel and three but at least it wasn’t a dirty sanchez!

Hal / Andrew                    Cayman / Seth   3-6,7-6,6-3

Best match of the day that no one saw IMO.  Swami seen the wind leave the LJ’s twosomes sails after the come from ahead loss in the 2nd set TB.  Sometimes you just can’t put that behind you eeehh Cannon.  Swami knows Shallow Hal and the Big Burrito aren’t going to hand the other team a victory.  And once that second set tie breaker went to HIVPTA, Swami knew the writing was on the wall.  May have been a little different if the crowd were engaged but being on court two away from the masses definitely hurt Cannon and Crazy Eyes as Uncle Mo definitely switched sides.  Talk about snatching victory from the jaws of defeat!  Good win for Tokin Tyler as we move into the final match up.

Harper Valley PTA 11-5

Lagniappe:

Shake and Bake by 2 with one match to play.  Lumber Jocks mathematically eliminated.  At least we don’t have to hear about Brad’s drive for five and he can attend the Saints game on finale Thursday.

Shake and Bake vs. Harper Valley for the Bentleague V II Title!!!!

Looks like we have line 5 playing early as agreed upon by the captains and commish.  We’ll know how things stand prior to Thursday’s’ finale with 14 points up for grabs at that time.

To date we do not know the match ups for Line 5.

Will it be plus +4 or all even on Dec 2nd.

?

Don't get any better than this...unless all lines counted the same!

Commissioner’s Corner:

Bentleague X: The Sequel Draft Recap

Bentleague X: The Sequel Draft Recap   Not for the faint of heart…back by popular demand…here is the St. Bernard Swami’s recap of the Bentleague X Draft.   First things first, this is an unbiased take on the captain’s picks and how the teams fared out on draft night.   As the ombudsman of Bentleague you can count on an unbiased evaluation of each team from top to bottom.   Congrats to the Commish for finally getting rid of the cockamamie scoring system that favored top picks more than late round selections.   This is an inclusive league for all PAC members, and a win by Rockin Toupsie or Josh (Mr. Irrelevant) should be just as much as a win by Russ “Don’t call me Russell” Anderson.   Wait…did Josh win any Bentleague matches last year?   I digress…on to the team draft grades. Drafting in the number one position was Hairy Hal Neitzschman aka. Spin Doctors II.   No surprise here with Russ going first overall.   Clear #1 by everyon...

Bentleague Blog/Vlog 10/22/2025 - Round 2 Match 2 and 3

I'll BE BACK! Going with the VLOG to recap match 2 and 3 of Round 2. https://youtu.be/rLpJlQK81UM? feature=shared --- Here are a couple of parting shots as I go to the IR: Sensei Kobrock will live in Bentleague infamy for having a person who was in Germany in the line up. Grant is still winless!  How is this even possible with those fundamentals. Rudy is working hard to fulfill third round expectations...finally gets in the Win column and it only took five matches! Old Knees Harvey should not complain about being at line 6.  Congrats on the W with Millsie. Nick is the only captain this year to not have a previous title under his belt and its showing.   Don't bet on the Ego on Saturday mornings! The youngin's are asserting themselve,s but a few of the old guard still know how to win.  Especially in TSTB's. Round 3 will reveal who had the best draft middle on down.  Time to get some more players involved. Being on the IR during Bentleague is more painf...
