Playoff Thursday/Scratch That – Playoff Saturday Recap

12/11/2021

Oopps! He did it again!

Scores:

Jon/ Russell v Buddy/Mark 3-6, 7-6, 6-1

Well, like they say….its hard to beat a team four times in a row.    Congrats to Line 1 winners Juan and Skinny legs.  From what the Swami observed, it appeared Russ went to another gear in the pivotal third.  Pretty much steam rolling Shake and Bake twosome.  Damn Thursday rainout!  Juan's improved eyesight and one too many old fashioned drinks for the Ego did not help.

Ronny/Mitch v B3/Peter 4-6, 6-2, 7-5

Swami would have lost money on this one.  Congrats to the two wily veterans out of Rummel and East Jeff.  Looks like they played with a chip on their shoulder especially in the third when it mattered.  Truth be told, most onlookers did not give them a chance except for their captain.  Would the ended have been different had line 1 gone the other way?  Lack of motivation (willingness to compete when the championship had already been won) may have played a part not to mention B III and Pete’s inflated self-worth!  Didn’t really matter in the end with Shake and Bake banking everything on lines 1 and 2 after seeing line one go down.  Swami thinking captain made the right call because a 2 and a 5 supposed to beat a 7 and an 8.  Just saying.

Nick/Addie v Tony/Gordo 6-4, 6-4

Young guns came out with a purpose.  Swami witnessed a little too much youth and fire power on display for the HIVPTA young guns.  Kudos to Tricky and  Addi...its always a pleasure stepping on the court with youngsters on the rise, but shouldn’t a 3 and 5 beat a 7 and 10!  I guess that is why they play the match because the seeds didn’t work out for Bogalusa on line 2!  Anyway, losing this one handily put all the onus on 1 and 2 which was really the plan anyway....until Mr. Old Fashioned began playing all tired in the crucial third set.

Tyler/Brent v Doug/Jared 6-4, 6-1

Just what the doctor ordered for captain HIVPTA.  A little Captain’s revenge for Tonkin T against his nemesis THC Grin.  No grinning for Doug during this one.  Dine and Ditch mastermind gets final laugh with sold and 1 win!  SabaTuth battles through injury, and makes his presence known at line 4 carrying the captain yet again.  Don’t want to hear no more about 2-pt Tony with this fourth rounder playing line 4.  These two lines could have came into play had line 1 gone to Shake and Bake.  In the end, it really didn't matter except for the Tuth's MVP candidacy.

Andrew/Hal v Thomas/Wayne 6-2, 6-2

All they do is WIN WIN WIN!  Andrew and Hal’s battle cry for future captains.  Hope next contingent is paying attention.  Don't recall seeing many L's on their records in B VII.  Would have been nice to see Gordo and I at this line.  If the Prince would have had his say, you would have seen the self inflated at line 4 and the Saint at line 5.  Still would have needed line 1 but....Results may have been different!

Lagniappe:

Congrats again to Tyler and the HVPTA contingent.  Your name will be etched in the annals of Bentleague  history as B VII Champions.  If I get individual stats from Hefty, there may be some end of the year nominations, summations, and awards.  Stay tuned.  Wanted to at least get this summary out there before the Holiday Party.

Commissioner’s Corner:

Gents, What a year for Bentleague!  A true playoff and two tight matches in third sets to decide it all.  The end result was a sweep for Harper Valley and with it the Bentleague VII tittle!

Congrats to the Tyler and the champions of Harper Valley.  Y'all decide how to handle the winnings and I'll present them to Tyler at the luncheon.

If you were not able to commit ahead of time please still come it anything changes.  We're usually there until 2:00 or so followed by drinks somewhere close so holla.

Maison Lafitte is the place right next to OLL if you've never been.

See you Thursday day around 11:00.

Bentleague X: The Sequel Draft Recap

Bentleague X: The Sequel Draft Recap   Not for the faint of heart…back by popular demand…here is the St. Bernard Swami’s recap of the Bentleague X Draft.   First things first, this is an unbiased take on the captain’s picks and how the teams fared out on draft night.   As the ombudsman of Bentleague you can count on an unbiased evaluation of each team from top to bottom.   Congrats to the Commish for finally getting rid of the cockamamie scoring system that favored top picks more than late round selections.   This is an inclusive league for all PAC members, and a win by Rockin Toupsie or Josh (Mr. Irrelevant) should be just as much as a win by Russ “Don’t call me Russell” Anderson.   Wait…did Josh win any Bentleague matches last year?   I digress…on to the team draft grades. Drafting in the number one position was Hairy Hal Neitzschman aka. Spin Doctors II.   No surprise here with Russ going first overall.   Clear #1 by everyon...

Bentleague Blog/Vlog 10/22/2025 - Round 2 Match 2 and 3

I'll BE BACK! Going with the VLOG to recap match 2 and 3 of Round 2. https://youtu.be/rLpJlQK81UM? feature=shared --- Here are a couple of parting shots as I go to the IR: Sensei Kobrock will live in Bentleague infamy for having a person who was in Germany in the line up. Grant is still winless!  How is this even possible with those fundamentals. Rudy is working hard to fulfill third round expectations...finally gets in the Win column and it only took five matches! Old Knees Harvey should not complain about being at line 6.  Congrats on the W with Millsie. Nick is the only captain this year to not have a previous title under his belt and its showing.   Don't bet on the Ego on Saturday mornings! The youngin's are asserting themselve,s but a few of the old guard still know how to win.  Especially in TSTB's. Round 3 will reveal who had the best draft middle on down.  Time to get some more players involved. Being on the IR during Bentleague is more painf...
