Bentleague IX Recap - Saturday Oct 21st

Bentleague IX Recap
Saturday Oct 21st -- 8:00 Net Prophets Spin Doctors Line 1 Net Prophets Spin Doctors Player 1 George Strain Hal Nei Player 2 Ty Miller Burt Dalton 6-3,6-3 Spin Doctors Chalk up a 3 and 3 for the Spin Doctors. Tough ask for Captain George against this Spin Doctor line up. Hal and Burt = Best pairing for a captain viewed by the Swami all round. Steal of the draft to date may be El Chupacabra. Good riddance round 3 and all these forced pairings. Comparing the Captains…George stayed with Miller Highlife and goes 1 and 3 for the round. Dave gets one win in the round just trying to not lose ground. Will we see Dave again? Will he be happy to play his four matches and turn into Jim Cornette? Jay and Hal get two of 3 to help their teams remain one and two overall. Now let’s get back to some normalcy in round 4 with the no sacrificing rule. Don’t forget to throw in a singles line to boot worth 2 points this round. Can Nick or the Ego beat Noah and Russell? Can Nick and the Ego avoid Noah and Russell? Stay tuned Line 2 Net Prophets Spin Doctors Player 1 Jawn Priola Michael Schwartz Player 2 Paul Eskine Thomas Domingues Seargeant Schwartz still on a roll. Shining like a star this round proving to be best third rounder hands down to date. And the young lefty ain’t no slouch-er. Tall ask for Jawn to win adverse Eskine. I’m being too hard on the vocally challenged one. He was supposed to win this one (14 and 6 vs. a 3 and a 10). SP’s duo (13 total) should win. Three and a Bagel score wasn’t even close. May have been the shortest match in B IX to date. Swami knows these two are notoriously slow starters so someone should have told Sleepy George. Two-point line and you skip Tucker and go with Jawn at line 2. Not going to make up ground trying for splits. It’s that kind of thinking that has Net Prophets in last place. 6-3,6-0 Spin Doctors Line 3 Net Prophets Spin Doctors Player 1 David Butler Ed Dauterive Player 2 Danny Butler Brad Humphreys Did someone say Line 3 is the new line 1 in this preposterous scoring system. Yes…that must be why Net Prophets thru out the Butler brothers at line three as 18th and 19th round selections. No Anderson, No Butcher, and No Melancon? SMH! Guess the Capt didn’t want to put his next highest draft pick(s) available at line 3. Are NP’s players padding their stats. Will Geritol George continue to go for splits instead of outright wins. Could Come Back Shane and Svelte Mitch compete against Hump and Ed? 1 and a 7 vs. a 2 and a 5 seem close in comparison on paper? Guess we’ll never know! No Yoga Legs, Candlestick, or Cajun Coonass a Saturday gift for Spin Doctors’ captain! Looks like a lack of dedication to the Bentleague and players choosing other social options in October. George better right the ship before it’s too late. 18 points back now and Swami questioning the captain’s motivation to tank. Is he selling his line up to the highest bidder? What have we witnessed in Round 3 Commish? There was no incentive for Playing line 3-5 legit. Too much emphasis on forced pairings at 1 and 2. If I said it once, I said it a thousand times…if you force the pairings you don’t need to weight the points awarded for lines individual lines. MAKE ALL LINES EQUAL! 6-3,6-0 Spin Doctors Line 4 Net Prophets Spin Doctors Player 1 Shane McCarthy Steve Jacobs Player 2 Mitch Tucker Tyler Harper 6-4,6-2 Net Prophets Easy win for Prophets at line 4 - 4 and 2. This NP pairing talking a lot of smack lately with line 5 win last week and line 4 win this week. Swami thinking championship will be decided by Net Prophets for all the wrong reasons. I the NP Capt. selling L’s and trying to recoup some of that draft day $ he laid out. Point shaving? Line throwing? Did someone just call him - George Hot Rod Strain! Tough outing for the Tanned one and Tokin Tyler aka. Run Forest Run here, but Captain Dave all dimples here after taking the other four lines plus the bonus. Line 5 Net Prophets Spin Doctors Player 1 Bill Spiess Greg Gordon Player 2 Dave Mount Doug Autin 6-3,6-1 Spin Doctors Gordo and Bogalusa Doug proving to be a good pairing for Spin Doctors. Just put Doug on the Deuce side and let him hit forehands. Swami knows if he can avoid hitting that back hand and any volley’s at the net, he can get a captain points. He did that for your truly in Bentleague I. He also has multiple titles to his name. Maybe I’m being a little hard on Dougie…really good value at 15. 3 and 1 score a little surprising though. Thought Free Willy and “Never in a rush” Mount had a chance on paper. Looking at the line match ups; NP was lucky they weren’t swept. As the Commish pointed out Saturday…Geritol George has played a lot of players and may be banking on a late season push. When others have to play lower round players to get their four matches in, George may bridge the gap if he can get his top tier players to show up. Total Points 1 6 Spin Doctors -- 9:30 Lobbyist Smash City Line 1 Lobbyist Smash City Player 1 Jay Blossman Dave McGuire Player 2 Greg Eckholdt Chris Rabon 6-4,6-1 Lobbyist Thank “small g – god” for Jaybo! Boy, Lobbyist needed this win. Round 3 would have been a lot worse without the Lobbyist captain. Zero points at line 2 in the round puts them last in this round. Need that round one mojo back quick Captain. 4 and 1 score a little surprising having just watched the Mayor of Mandeville get a good win Tuesday night. One thing is certain…Doc Eck is unflappable. Swami watched him flip those rolling forehands and back hands all day. Patience not a virtue with this Smash City twosome and in the end that led to their demise. Line 2 Lobbyist Smash City Player 1 Mark Schneider Blake Powers Player 2 Shawn Potter Bentley Harvey 1-6,6-4,1-0 Smash City Three tie breakers on this day and all won by Smash City. Very surprising considering who took the L’s. Tennis Karma on Smash City’s side this time. Swami knows is not easy to beat Samuria Schneider so good win for the Man of mystery - Powers and Old knees Harvey. Split sets, close tie breaker, and in the end Old Knees gets back in the W column. Battle of 4th rounders goes to Squeaky Powers this time. Swami knows Samuria will be wanting revenge in round 4. Keep an eye on these two. Line 3 Lobbyist Smash City Player 1 Noah Marquez Mark Fair Player 2 Jeff Thompson Grant Matherne 6-3,6-4 Lobbyist Grant finally gets to play against someone with a western grip forehand, but looking at the score, the results were no different. Still searching for that allusive first win in Bentleague but racking up frequent flyer miles to the psychiatrist. 3 and 4 victory for the Lobbyist just what Jeffro needed to restore that confidence. Playing with Noah didn’t hurt either. Two, I mean too, bad it was only worth 1 point since the new line 1 was really line 3. Lobbyist praying for similar round 1 result in rounds 4 and 5 if they want to get back in the title contention. Line 4 Lobbyist Smash City Player 1 Robert Groeneveld Andrew McQuaid Player 2 Tony Priola Kevin Phayer 6-1,0-6,1-0 Smash City It was the best of times…it was the worst of times. No, it’s not tale of two cities…it was the tale of two sets. After losing first 6-1, Lobbyist win 2nd At Love! Could Lobbyist keep momentum in third. Would Smash City dominance of first set be restored. As much as I like Kevin and Andrew, that is how much I hate losing to Kevin and Andrew. Geez. Still losing sleep about this one. How the eff did we let this one slip away in the tie breaker Sundial? Must admit…first set was torture. Slow and on the losing end of majority of points played. And a little hung over. Andew did have the Shot of the day! Some contortionist overhead back hand wind shield wipers swing off a perfect lob after doing a 360. Minus Jay’s three aces last match this was the best shot of Bentleague to date. It was at that moment in time when I knew we were in trouble. Sundial don’t like unorthodox, and the big burrito is unorthodox. Good win to Rocky and Bullwinkle! Effing fluke in my mind. I’ll have to bounce back to get back into the MVP discussion. Line 5 Lobbyist Smash City Player 1 Todd Delcambre Seth Monaghan Player 2 Mike Otillio Kenny Boudreaux 3-6,6-4,1-0 Smash City And the last of the third set tie breakers goes to…Smash City. 11- 9 in the final set. Dang. This one hurt because I had to listen to Seth describe how he took over the tie breaker all weekend. Pretty even on paper, but crazy eyes’ is deceivingly athletic for someone who looks like he should be a drum major. Big Burrito like qualities and can take over a tie breaker when only 10 points are needed. As we found out at line 4, you can’t hit soft returns and let the net guy dictate the points. Lobbyist take one on the chin but are within shouting distance to Hairy Hal. 3 5 Smash City -- Spin Doctors Lobbyist Smash City Net Prophets Round 1 Total 12 13 12 11 Round 2 Total 19 17 12 6 Round 3 Total 15 10 12 11 Round 4 Total 0 0 0 0 Round 5 Total 0 0 0 0 Total Points 46 40 36 28

Bentleague X: The Sequel Draft Recap

Bentleague X: The Sequel Draft Recap   Not for the faint of heart…back by popular demand…here is the St. Bernard Swami’s recap of the Bentleague X Draft.   First things first, this is an unbiased take on the captain’s picks and how the teams fared out on draft night.   As the ombudsman of Bentleague you can count on an unbiased evaluation of each team from top to bottom.   Congrats to the Commish for finally getting rid of the cockamamie scoring system that favored top picks more than late round selections.   This is an inclusive league for all PAC members, and a win by Rockin Toupsie or Josh (Mr. Irrelevant) should be just as much as a win by Russ “Don’t call me Russell” Anderson.   Wait…did Josh win any Bentleague matches last year?   I digress…on to the team draft grades. Drafting in the number one position was Hairy Hal Neitzschman aka. Spin Doctors II.   No surprise here with Russ going first overall.   Clear #1 by everyon...

Bentleague Blog/Vlog 10/22/2025 - Round 2 Match 2 and 3

I'll BE BACK! Going with the VLOG to recap match 2 and 3 of Round 2. https://youtu.be/rLpJlQK81UM? feature=shared --- Here are a couple of parting shots as I go to the IR: Sensei Kobrock will live in Bentleague infamy for having a person who was in Germany in the line up. Grant is still winless!  How is this even possible with those fundamentals. Rudy is working hard to fulfill third round expectations...finally gets in the Win column and it only took five matches! Old Knees Harvey should not complain about being at line 6.  Congrats on the W with Millsie. Nick is the only captain this year to not have a previous title under his belt and its showing.   Don't bet on the Ego on Saturday mornings! The youngin's are asserting themselve,s but a few of the old guard still know how to win.  Especially in TSTB's. Round 3 will reveal who had the best draft middle on down.  Time to get some more players involved. Being on the IR during Bentleague is more painf...
