Bentleague 12/4/2023 Recap
Crunch time boys. Before I get to the recap…looks like we are all set for number 1 vs. number 2 for the finale. We’ll find out at 630pm Thursday if Hairy Hal can hang on to his one-point lead. If Hal gets four out of 8, he takes the trophy. If Lobbyist can duplicate Monday’s results (5-3) they secure the Ship. Told you m’fers whoever drafts me has an 80% chance of playing for the title. Just need one more prediction to come true!
6:00 Smash City Lobbyist
Line 1
Smash City Lobbyist
Player 1 Nick Thompson Noah Marquez
Player 2 Mark Fair Jeff Thompson
6-7,6-4,6-4 Smash City
How the eff does Ego and Tricky lose to Brad and Dr. Death and then beat Noah and JT9? Inquiring minds want to know. Good win in a tightly contested match. Wish this was a tie breaker instead of a full third set based on Smash City’s record in TB’s this year. May be a blessing to give Lobbyist duo a loss now to get their heads right for the finale.
Line 2
Smash City Lobbyist
Player 1 Blake Powers Chris Kobrock
Player 2 Ronny Regouffre Mark Schneider
6-2,6-4 Lobbyist
Highly anticipated match fizzles as the match and scores show complete domination by Killer K and Samurai Schneider. Swami a little surprised by the scores but not by another Samurai win.
Line 3
Smash City Lobbyist
Player 1 Andrew McQuaid Tony Priola
Player 2 Sid Hauptmann Robby Economides
6-1,4-6,6-4 Lobbyist
Lobbyist had to earn this one after lopsided first set. Once the jitters wore off Burrito and Senor’ Sid gave Lobbyist duo all they could handle. Smash City rallies in 2nd set and jumps out to a 3-0 lead in the third. Would this give Lil Nadal his fourth loss playing with a Robert. I’m sure the Big Burrito is losing sleep on how they lost next five games. Must admit…Robby stepped it up with his smashing net play. Smash City holds at 3-5. All Robby has to do is Hold at 5-4. Money line says Lobbyist but Robby had issues holding most of the match. Lil Nadal ends the suspense with three winners in match clinching game. Hope Brad was watching.
Line 4
Smash City Lobbyist
Player 1 Keith Krebs Skip Scoggins
Player 2 Jared Williams Wayne Durr
7-5,6-1 Smash City
Close first set won by Krebs and Subway Jared took the sail out of the Lobbyist Duo. 2nd set not so close. Swami seen a lot of long rallies, but sadly…most of them were won by the line 4 Smash City pairing.
Line 5
Smash City Lobbyist
Player 1 Paul Guidotti Steve Toups
Player 2 Robin Walker Mike Otillio
6-1,6-3 Lobbyist
All Toups does is win. No points for being pretty. A lot of fire in this pairing and I’ll go into a fox hole with Mean Mike any day of the week. Paulie G and Rockin’ Robin go down in two.
Total Points 3 5
Lobbyist take three of five, secure bonus point and go up 1 in total points heading into the late match. Thanks for the math lesson, Hal. Now how will Spin Doctors do?
7:30 Spin Doctors Net Prophets
Line 1
Spin Doctors Net Prophets
Player 1 Will Gement Russell Anderson
Player 2 Greg Gordon Jay Butcher
3-6,6-3,6-2 Net Prophets
What a match! Will the Thrill step’d it up in the first! And Gordo played out of his mind. Can’t say the same for Rusty Anderson and JayB. Thought we might have a couple of broken rackets if that trend would have continued. Enter in the cooler - JT9 between sets. Thought we might have a couple of broken rackets if that trend would have continued. Gordo came back down to earth and a few errors by Will brought Rusty and Candlestick into the match. Then Brad showed up. Mouth of the Amite was all Net Prophet duo needed to get fired up. Noticeable rise to their games after the Mouth arrived. High quality tennis for the onlookers and hopefully Mesa will bring the Jamison he promised to the finale.
Line 2
Spin Doctors Net Prophets
Player 1 Ed Dauterive Jawn Priola
Mike Mesa Eddie Burdette
6-4,6-2 Spin Doctors
Ed getting comfortable at line 2. Will Hal keep him here on Thursday or give him a chance to earn 1st round selection. Inquiring minds what to know. Net play suspect for NP Duo. Swami observation: Looked like Jawn struggled without the kitchen line and Eddie needed to get closer to the net. Spin Doctors take it in two. Hal was hoping for at least two lines but where will the other victory come from. On to line 3.
Line 3
Spin Doctors Net Prophets
Player 1 Steve Jacobs Bill Spiess
Player 2 Thomas Domingues Mitch Tucker
6-3,6-0 Net Prophets
Svelte Mitch and Free Willy too much for the Tanned one and Lefty D on this chilly Monday night. Nice step up for the young lefty so good learning experience. Surprising bagel in the 2nd though! Mitch finally justifying George’s confidence in him with early fifth round selection. Swami knows Willy can be Jekyll and Hyde on the court so good to see Mr. Hyde under that blue hoodie.
Line 4
Spin Doctors Net Prophets
Player 1 Ray Brouillette Ty Miller
Player 2 Vaughn Pizz Chris Coinon
6-3,6-2 Net Prophets
Spin Doctor’s throw out the gimps at line 4. Not the right pairing for Ty Highlife and the smooth lefty because the long rallies took their toll at the end. Throw the paper victories out of the door because Ty asks no quarter and gives no quarter!
Line 5
Spin Doctors Net Prophets
Player 1 Camron Zipp Danny Butler
Player 2 Josh Clark David Butler
6-3,6-2 Net Prophets
Butler Brothers did it! Even took a point when Bam Bam Cam wasn’t looking. Brave move guys. Swami would have probably replayed the point. Good win either way! Battle of the late rounders goes to the BB’s.
Total Points 2 6
Well, Hal didn’t get his two victories but got enough to go up by one heading into the finale. Let the chess match begin. Please let Parnell be across the net from me Thursday night! Recalling that he was very vocal about my preseason predictions. Its time to walk the walk!

Bentleague X: The Sequel Draft Recap Not for the faint of heart…back by popular demand…here is the St. Bernard Swami’s recap of the Bentleague X Draft. First things first, this is an unbiased take on the captain’s picks and how the teams fared out on draft night. As the ombudsman of Bentleague you can count on an unbiased evaluation of each team from top to bottom. Congrats to the Commish for finally getting rid of the cockamamie scoring system that favored top picks more than late round selections. This is an inclusive league for all PAC members, and a win by Rockin Toupsie or Josh (Mr. Irrelevant) should be just as much as a win by Russ “Don’t call me Russell” Anderson. Wait…did Josh win any Bentleague matches last year? I digress…on to the team draft grades. Drafting in the number one position was Hairy Hal Neitzschman aka. Spin Doctors II. No surprise here with Russ going first overall. Clear #1 by everyon...
