Bentleague recap 9/26-9/28

Round 1 Match 3

Sept 26st, Thursday

6:00                    The Killers                      Kiss My Ace Deux

Line 1                 Gabe Perez                     Jeff Thompson               5-7, 6-1, 1-0            Kiss My Ace Deux

                            Donald Allen                  Rudy Kalman

Undefeated Lefty and Undefeated RuPaul take on Young Gabe and The Donald.  The Donald stepping up to line one brings up a fond memory when the Don was a first rounder.  Good tennis early forces match to a third set tie breaker (TSTB).  Couple of gifts in the TSTB allowed KMA to jump out to an 8-1 lead.  No way lefty giving up that lead…so line one is in for KMA while both teams missing true number one’s.

Line 2                 Brad Humphreys           Michael Schwartz         4-6, 6-3, 1-0        The Killers

                            Chris Kobrock                Robby Economides

Got to give the Mouth some credit.  Definitely scoring for his squad.  Tough TSTB defeat for KMA.  On paper I was not upset when I saw the match up.  Got to watch the end of the TSTB and let down after getting it to 7-7 doomed KMA tandem.

Line 3                 Max Agnew                     Tony Priola                       6-3, 6-4              The Killers

                            Cayman Sinclair            Mark Schneider

Don’t underestimate Fabio Max.  Slicing duo should have fared better according to the Swami, but you have to give credit where credit is due.  Captain Killer dialing up a proven winner with this pairing.  Cannon hitting ropes and Fabio dominating the net makes for a good one two punch.  Very disappointing that unorthodox duo could not figure out how to avoid that 10 foot wingspan at the net.  I have a feeling this group may find themselves paired up again.  Lil Nadal can only hope and he acknowledged not playing his best.  I really want to dislike this guy Fabio…I mean…tall, full head of hair, and a net game to envy…what’s there not to dislike! just wish he wasn’t so damn nice to make it easier.

Line 4                 Jay Blossman                 Burt Dalton                     7-5, 7-6              Kiss My Ace Deux

                            Todd Delcambre            Skip Scoggins

Last match of the early players captivated the spectators.  Couldn’t get much closer.  “Tinder Dalton had to play like the best person on the court and luckily for KMA he did.  Known for being tough on the clay and with steady skip, was able to win the most of critical points.  A lot of good tennis on display and a couple of ill-timed volley’s into the net did in Killer pairing.

Line 5                 Ray Brouillette               Doug Autin                      6-3, 6-1               The Killers

                            Ken Looper                      Ernie Anderson

Ouch.  Tough getting Sugar Ray Ray at line 5.  Helped the Killers to get Swami’s sleeper pick – Looper so late in the draft.  If the numbers equate you have to appreciate.  Principal Belding was able to get 3 of 5 lines to give the Prince of the Parish his first captain’s loss in Bentleague.  Guess it had to happen eventually but, 12-1 run was and is still impressive.  Just have to start another streak ASAP.

With the loss…killers take a 2 point victory, but KMA remains the total point leader after round 1 is complete.

As the Prince told his troops.  This is a total points league, not a head to head league.  As long as KMA wins point total tally after each round…KMA will reach ultimate goal of a championship at the end.  More to come.

Total Points     5            3

7:30                    Smash Brothers           Angry Squirrels

Line 1                 Mark Fair                         Will Gement                   6-2, 4-6 , 1-0        Angry Squirrels

                            Mitch Tucker                   Greg Gordon

Ego was heard afterwards saying some times you play good enough but still don’t win at line one.  Could it be he is getting used to losing.  Hope that attitude isn’t contagious for Smash Brothers sake.  Will the Thrill rises to the occasion and Gordo displays California cool against his fourth round counterpart.  0-3 start by Svelte Mitch definitely a concern from his SB captain.

Line 2                 Blake Powers                 Jay Butcher                     6-4, 6-0              Angry Squirrels

                            Ronny Regouffre            Eddie Burdette

Young Blake having a rough start so far in bentleague XInjury status and it may be worse than advertised.  Hardy welcome back to Gouffre.  But big Chief Burdette wasn’t too welcoming.  Candlestick Maker must have had the net game working too. Could be hot or cold at times but its always a good sign when rackets are not getting thrown.   Swami a little surprised by the bagel in the 2nd set.

Line 3                 Mike Mesa                       David Parnell                  6-4,6-4               Angry Squirrels

                            Billy Spiess                      Hal Neitzschman

Smoke and Mirrors? How the heck does Parnell and Hal keep winning?  Good thing Swami isn’t a betting man.  Would have bet the Cuban and Free Willy in a heartbeat.  Mesa can’t blame this one on anyone else.  Same for Lil Nadal.  Will be hard to swallow if the Cuban and Lil Nadal don’t start winning soon.

Line 4                 Mark Ferrer                     Chris Rabon                    7-6, 6-2              Smash Brothers

                            Greg Eckholdt                Andrew McQuaid

One Unplugged and Doc Eck take it in two.  Traveling Ferr welcome addition to Mesa’s injured troops.  Some great forehand rallies between Doc Eck and the Round Mound of Rabon.  Big Burrito at the net could have been a difference maker, but based on the score, it was more harm than good.  Swami disappointed 2nd set not as close as set one.  Big Burrito may have to minimize and simplify extracurriculars if he wants to get back into the win column.

Line 5                 Keith West                       Tom Chamberlain          6-2, 7-6              Smash Brothers

                             David Butler                    Don Sharman

Looks like youth prevailed in this one.  The fourth Keith was a pleasant surprise for the Cuban Captain.  Swami questioning pre season scouting report from both Wild Wild West and Benson Butler.  May have slipped a little too far down the draft board according to the Swami.  And, I’m not Danny Butler has more weapons that advertised.  Starting with the funky pause and pronate serve.  Actually a weapon more than a liability.  Don’t squeeze the Sharman and Ginsu Tom made it close in the 2nd but mobility of the youth too much to overcome.

Angry S makes up some ground and the feast against the Smash Brothers continues  Poor Mesa.  Poor Mesa.  Pour me another drink dammit.  Can’t believe I lost to Cayman and Fabio.

Total Points     2                                         6

Round 2

Sept 28th, Saturday

8:00                    Smash Brothers           Kiss My Ace Deux

Line 1                 Blake Powers                 Jeff Thompson               6-1, 6-3               Kiss My Ace Deux

                             Mike Mesa                       Russ Anderson

Mesa throws himself in at line 1 to increase chances of success later.  Almost worked to perfection.  Lefty and Russ handle business though to move to 3-0 as a tandem.  Blake’s shoulder still a concern for Cuban Captain.  Too much fire power from KMA Duo left little doubt on final outcome.

Line 2                 Ronny Regouffre            Michael Schwartz         6-2, 6-4              Kiss My Ace Deux

                            Mark Ferrer                     Rudy Kalman

Gouffre and One Unplugged against RuPaul and Sarge.  Sarge may be rounding into form and Rudy just keeps on winning.  Rust wearing off for Goof so Swami predicting better results in the future.  KMA takes line 1 and 2 hoping other lines will come through for large margin of victory against Smash Brothers.

Line 3                 Ryan Fornier                   Thomas Domingues      6-1,6-2               Kiss My Ace Deux

Thomas handles up on Fornier.  Lefty has some weapons and could see more action for KMA moving forward.  And why wasn’t this one worth two points?  #cockamamie.  Its singles for goodness sakes.  Little surprise by the scores as I know Ryan competes at a high level in singles.  Just need some doubles success from TD in future matches since rules says one and done for singles.

Line 4                 Mitch Tucker                   Tony Priola                       3-6, 6-4,              Smash Brothers

                            Billy Spiess                      Alejandro Torres

This one was not without controversy.  0-3 Mitch gets his first win at line four and a new nick name.  yes…I am sure everyone knows by now but Mitch Da Bitch called a foot fault against Lil Nadal in his first service game.  Impersonating Vic Morlas?  C’mon…you are better than that.  Was he hoping his Vic impersonation would lead to double faults.  It did not and now he will be forever linked to Vic the Dick.  Ps. No double faults from Lil Nadal rendered.  What was the goal?  Knowing that his partner is famous for foot faulting, the Prince was kind of surprised Da Bitch went there.  Of course, Lil Nadal had to reciprocate.  Hate lowering myself to that level though.  Told Willy there would be no more foot faults called if the Da Bitch relented on the Morlas tactics.  Sadly…more controversy followed.  One call had to be overruled on a slurve serve out wide against Willy.  Might have had World War III if the call wasn’t reversed.  Then, Da Bitch had the nerve to pull out the “the East Jeff are you sure ” comment on a serve that was clearly back.  On a first serve too.  Then Da Bitch tried to bully the youngster into changing his sideline call even though his partner said Alejandro got it right.  Stick to your call Ale Ale Alejandro!  This guy would have done anything not to go 0 and 4. In the end…KMA loses in a close TSTB.  Couple of loose shots at the end but let’s give some credit to the SB Duo.  Very little.  Based on draft position a four and an eight should beat a eight and a seven.  Just too bad Da Bitch had to show his true colors.  Congrats on your win and for stepping up to be the pink hat wearing favorite of B X.  Every race needs a front runner and pink appears to be your color.

Line 5                 Robert Groeneveld       Burt Dalton                 6-3,6-4                               Smash Brothers

                            Matt Dean                       Doug Autin

Couple of wild cards playing with Mad Matt and Bogalusa Doug and everyone knows you have to have patience to play against Sundial.  Word on the street was that my wild card was a little worse than the SB wild card.  And, I’m sure Burt didn’t like the slow play role of Roberto.  Not a good match up for my two even though forehand/ backhand pairing made sense for KMA on paper.  Oh well, back to the drawing board.

Line 6                 Greg Eckholdt                Wayne Durr                     6-4, 6-0              Smash Brothers

                             CJ                                       Devin Smith

Tied at 4-4 and then the wheels came off evidently.  Did Doc Eck and CJ the DJ really run off 8 straight games?  Do we need an intervention or a psychiatrist?  I know we have a few doctors in Bentleague but I don’t think we have a sports phycologist.  Another bad match up for KMA…?  Consistency from CJ and Eck prove lethal.  Captain better intervene fast…Bentleague tennis should be fun and without worry…so don’t sweat it Devin…Just swing free and try to hit it inside the white lines.  Unless Da Bitch is playing and he don’t want to have an oh and four start.

Total Points     4                                         5

9:30                    The Killers                      Angry Squirrels

Line 1                 Ed Dauterive                   Greg Gordon                   6-4, 2-6, 1-0        The Killers

                            Gabe Perez                     Eddie Burdette

Oh what could have been…But no one is really betting on Gordo in a tie breaker.  Killer Captain dialing up W’s so far.  No Noah again for the squirrel hurting AS chances.  When is Nationals btw.  Gordo and the Chief almost pull out the upset for AS.  Tell me rumors of Gordo double faulting at 8 apiece aren’t true.  Heart Breaker if he did.  Young Gabe gets in the W column for some much needed confidence.  Sky’s the limit for the Son of Death.  I know he’s wondering how he can get on the cover of the news letter like his mom.  Just keep winning SOD.

Line 2                 Shane McCarthy            Kevin Phayer                   6-0, 6-1               The Killers

                            Chris Kobrock                Andrew McQuaid

Mouth of Mandeville loves his line 2 pairing.  Finally gets the W too in both line 1 and 2 as he seemed happy to split in previous match ups.

I have a feeling these two will meet stiffer competition is subsequent rounds.  Lil Nadal might have to step in at line 2.  Burrito and the Hipster only get one game and some thought that was a fluke.  Ho Hum victory for Come Back Shane and KK.

Line 3                 Todd Delcambre            Jeff St. Romain               7-6, 4-6, 1-0        Angry Squirrels

Send in St. Ro to avoid the sweep.  Looks like St. Ro figured out how to keep the ball inside the white lines too.  Tough battle throughout and some excellent points viewed from the sidelines.  Did new Toss rule effect the outcome…were any foot faults called?  Tough loss for Todd…but as we all know…anything can happen in the TSTB with that toss.

Line 4                 Brad Humphreys           Hal Neitzschman          7-5, 6-3              The Killers

                            Ray Brouillette               Eric Daigle

Tough ask for AS pair but Shallow and Eric were actually serving out the first set.  Crucial break at 5-4 and uncle Mo switched pretty fast.

Brad squeaks out another one but the game plan devised by Shallow Hal and Heavy D Daigle may be used against these two in future matches.   Evident that these two just don’t move laterally that well.  Good ground strokes and volleys if they are moving forward.  Note to Bentleague players for future match ups…make these two move laterally or back and you will have success.

Line 5                 Keith Krebs                     George Strain                 6-2,6-4               The Killers

Keith Laterrade               Don Sharman

The two Keiths looked impressive in bounce back victory.  Swami would have predicted a closer contest but the crafty pair from AS could not over come the youth and athleticism of Krebs and Laterrade.  Can George stop that phantom losing streak? Robbie can we get won loss records added to the web site.  Wait…never mind…my record is resembling Geritol George right now.  Damn!

Line 6                 Chris Coincon                Tom Chamberlain          3-6, 6-2, 1-0        The Killers

                            Paul Guidotti                  Danny Butler

Killers take line 6 and only Shane knew it was worth two points!  #cockamamie.  Third set TB goes to Paulie Nuts and Reply All Coincon.  Killers righty-lefty combo a little better than AS rightly-lefty combo.  I think if these four played ten matches they would each get five.  Sadly…this was the Killers time to prevail.

Killers almost sweep and take match 8-1.  Thank small g for St. Ro.  Three matches go to TSTB’s…so can’t wait until we do a full third set.

We have a new leader in the club house men as Killers take overall point total lead.  But, we only at match two of the 2nd round so long way to go!

Total Points     8                                         1

Kiss My Ace Deux        Smash Brothers           Angry Squirrels           The Killers

Total Points     21                                       9                                        13                                         23

Couple of pictures from Thursday's Match! First up Dandy Don.  Next up is Will the Thrill.  Is Will's foot on the line?  If so, ...Don't tell Da Bitch!

Bentleague X: The Sequel Draft Recap

Bentleague X: The Sequel Draft Recap   Not for the faint of heart…back by popular demand…here is the St. Bernard Swami’s recap of the Bentleague X Draft.   First things first, this is an unbiased take on the captain’s picks and how the teams fared out on draft night.   As the ombudsman of Bentleague you can count on an unbiased evaluation of each team from top to bottom.   Congrats to the Commish for finally getting rid of the cockamamie scoring system that favored top picks more than late round selections.   This is an inclusive league for all PAC members, and a win by Rockin Toupsie or Josh (Mr. Irrelevant) should be just as much as a win by Russ “Don’t call me Russell” Anderson.   Wait…did Josh win any Bentleague matches last year?   I digress…on to the team draft grades. Drafting in the number one position was Hairy Hal Neitzschman aka. Spin Doctors II.   No surprise here with Russ going first overall.   Clear #1 by everyon...

Bentleague Blog/Vlog 10/22/2025 - Round 2 Match 2 and 3

I'll BE BACK! Going with the VLOG to recap match 2 and 3 of Round 2. https://youtu.be/rLpJlQK81UM? feature=shared --- Here are a couple of parting shots as I go to the IR: Sensei Kobrock will live in Bentleague infamy for having a person who was in Germany in the line up. Grant is still winless!  How is this even possible with those fundamentals. Rudy is working hard to fulfill third round expectations...finally gets in the Win column and it only took five matches! Old Knees Harvey should not complain about being at line 6.  Congrats on the W with Millsie. Nick is the only captain this year to not have a previous title under his belt and its showing.   Don't bet on the Ego on Saturday mornings! The youngin's are asserting themselve,s but a few of the old guard still know how to win.  Especially in TSTB's. Round 3 will reveal who had the best draft middle on down.  Time to get some more players involved. Being on the IR during Bentleague is more painf...
