Bentleague X

Nov 2nd, Saturday

8:00                    The Killers                       Kiss My Ace Deux

Line 1                 Ed Dauterive                   Russell Anderson          6-1,6-1               Kiss My Ace Deux

                            Brad Humphreys           Tony Priola

Bread Sticks for Bradley and it wasn’t even that close.  Swami was expecting this one to be a little more competitive.  Bottom line is that KMA duo had too much fire power and the Killer duo was not up to the challenge.   Observers counted at least three whiffs from the Mouth of the Mandeville (MoM), one from the Donkey, and one no look from the Saint of St. Bernard that made the MoM look silly.  Nice to hear a little quiet for a change until his team pulled out the last match securing the bonus point and share of 1st place.  But, since out match finished so quickly…it was nice for a little bit of peace and quiet and humility from Captain Killer.

Line 2                 Donald Allen                  Mark Schneider             6-3,6-4               The Killers

                            Keith Laterrade               Sid Hauptmann

The Donald evidently came to play.  Paired with Smiley Laterrade shuts down KMA’s 4th and 13th round selections!  (Definitely( A part of the high value low expectations discussions at that sixth-round draft slot.  Didn’t hurt Killer’s tandem that one of the KMA players had a bum elbow, but you must give credit where credit is due.  Still have a feeling our paths will cross (Donald) and circling Dec 5th on my calendar for the show down of show downs.

Line 3                 Shane McCarthy            Michael Schwartz         6-3,6-1               The Killers

                            Chris Kobrock                Robby Economides

Swami knows a Two and a three should beat a three and a six but 3 and 1.  C’mon…its just Shane and Kobrock for goodness sakes.  Getting tired of everyone being afraid of Shane and his surprisingly quick hands at the net.  Would think that open net 75% of the time would be a decent equalizer.  Good win for the killers.  You would think KMA’s guys had to eat chocolate roaches because the fear factor was off the charts even before the match.  KMA Captain has notated this for future reference.

Line 4                 Jay Blossman                 Josh Clark                       3-6,6-3,10-8  The Killers

                            Max Agnew                     Jeff Thompson

Where’s minus two Dunbar?  Thought I was in a where’s waldo story line.  Eff Waldo….  That’s all I have to say on that one.  Thanks for filling in Josh, but this one was supposed to be the two lefties for KMA.  Would have liked our chances if minus 2 would have just read one of the three emails or two text messages sent out.  Captain must take the blame (I guess) for not getting confirmation but damn this one hurts.  At least we didn’t forfeit.  Appreciate MoM letting me adjust on the fly…not sure Pink hat and suit wearing Shallow Hal would have allowed the late sub.  Would have made line 5 more relevant and that all important bonus point had KMA taken this line.  Good playing by Fabio Max and the always crafty Float Boat Captain.  Couple of sitters at the net away from KMA, pulling out the W with their super sub.

Line 5                 Todd Delcambre            Burt Dalton                     6-2,6-1               Kiss My Ace Deux

                            Cameron Zipp                Doug Autin

Welcome to the Win column Doug.  3-time Bentleague Champion rounding into form.  Got to watch this one up close because my match wasn’t that competitive.  Burt putting himself in MVP discussions with fourth win in five attempts.  Looked like some good tennis from the KMA duo which is nice to see heading into the home stretch.  Seen some struggles from the Purple People Eater which was odd coming off the Tops’l trip.  KMA duo did a good job staying away from Cam Cam at the net.  Making him hit rally balls seemed to be the key to success.  That and Kenny’s surplus wine from Tops’l.  Captain KMA almost played it perfectly if minus two would have just read those three emails and two text messages.  Let it go Captain…let it go!

Total Points     5                                         3

9:30                    Smash Brothers             Angry Squirrels

Line 1                 Mark Fair                         Jay Butcher                     6-2, 7-5              Smash Brothers

                            Mike Mesa                       Kevin Phayer

Three and Oh for Mesa in the Captain’s Round propels him to within six.  Let the gloating begin.  Close third, but match never really in doubt.  Wait…weren’t y’all serving for the 2nd set?  Did they have any broken rackets?  Looks like AS Let that one get away.  Squirrel regrettably without number one Noah who was with Nick at Mixed Nationals and boy was he missed.  Would have loved to see Noah and the Squirrel line up across Captain Cubano.  The one not so lucky was Robby, who was hoping Shane was with them in Arizona.  Damn…would have loved to see this one go to that third set…

Line 2                 Mike Lane                        Greg Gordon                   3-6,7-5,10-3  Angry Squirrels

                            Ronny Regouffre            Eric Daigle

The Magic Mike I watched on Saturday was not the Magic Mike that I played against earlier in Round 3.  Too bad for Ronny as he is on the cusp of challenging Gordo’s infamous 0-8 futility.  Say it isn’t so Goof.  This guy needs a win bad.  Hopefully, that won’t start on Thursday.  Got it to the third but it looks like Eric the Red and Gecko Gordon ran away in the tie breaker.  Ps.  Is anyone else freaked out by Magic Mike’s AI Headshot on his social media posts.  Reminds me of Max Headroom.  If you don’t know what I’m talking about - google it.  Mike Lane is Max Headroom if you ask the Swami.  I need to find out when this guy is presenting in court.  IYKYK.  Gordon, quietly in MVP discussions so Ronny, there is still hope.

Line 3                 Blake Powers                 Eddie Burdette               6-3,6-4               Smash Brothers

                            Mark Ferrer                     Jeff St. Romain

The chief hasn’t lost many matches this year so kudos to the Self-proclaimed best 7th round selection and Squeaky B.  Hot and Cold St. Ro can’t match consistency from Smash Brothers pairing.  Blake must be rounding into form, but that under handed serve isn’t going to cut it in a closer match.  Looking at this on paper, 3 and 4 victory not surprising to the Swami.  Lack of depth a factor on Angry Squirrels with two rounds remaining. Especially on Saturday’s.

Line 4                 Billy Spiess                      Danny Butler                  7-6,6-4               Smash Brothers

                            Addison Melancon        Garret Phillippi

Welcome back G!  Glad to see you back on the court.  And please burn any pictures you have of that growth that came out of your back.  Also, please give Old Knees Harvey, your doctor’s contact information.  He may need an estimate.  Swami would have thought this one would have been easier for Free Willy and the Cajun Coonass, but Addi is just getting his sea legs back.  Another one we are happy to see playing again.  Impressive tennis from “Don’t call me David” Butler.  Not recalling too many L’s on this guy’s resume.  Really distinguishing himself from his brother.  Just wish we could tell them apart.  (Definitely) Playing a role in SB’s charge to get in title contention.

Line 5                 Steve Toups                    Kenny Boudreaux          6-3,3-6,11-9  Angry Squirrels

                            Ryan Fornier                   Tom Chamberlain

Squirrels (Boudreaux and Chamberlain) came to battle.  Feature match didn’t disappoint and was very entertaining for those that stuck around.  11-9 in the TSTB proved that every line should matter.  They do but they are just not worth the same as for as points earned.  From what I saw, Toups had a hard time handling Tommy Cuts hard slicers.  But the shot of the day had to be Kenny’s overhead left hander from the fence late in the TSTB.  Definitely… a difference maker.  Saved the Angry Squirrels from dropping even further behind in the overall standings.  Way to pull out the victory.  Wondering if Toups will remember this one during next year’s prayer of invocation.  B X’s Leaders needed it too to keep SB at bay.  Things are tightening up as we close out round 3 in style.  Thanks for an entertaining match fella s.

Total Points      5                                         3

And…after three we have a tie at the top.  41 a piece for KMA and the Killers.  SB only six back and Angry Squirrels 8 back.  Key for the Captains will be trying to maintain point totals while getting everyone their allotted matches in.  There are penalties for failing to get everyone their matches in, so captains…do your part. Speaking of availability…read the effing lineup card.  Not going to play the what if game, but if you take away the two points LA Tech Steve took from us, and the two minus-2-Dunbar cost us, we could be sitting prettier heading into round 4.  Count to 10 Prince….1, 2, 3….10.  Alright.I have officially let it go.  Time to run our attentions to Round 4.  1-8 singles and five doubles lines.  Plenty of points to be had.  Already getting vibes that Tricky Nicky is afraid of Russ!  Begging for KMA to save him for Rd 4 match 2.  And what about a rematch between Russ and Ed.  Or a rematch between Young Gabe and the Prince of the Parish.  Does he really want that embarrassing loss his suffered 4 years ago repeated.  I think not.  May talk a good game via email, but Son of Ed really don’t want that one.  As Apollo said at the end of Rocky II…. Don’t want no rematch.  Still liking KMA’s position.  As I said earlier, just want to being winning at the completion of each round and low and behold, look who’s still on top.  Congrats to the Killer’s for making it close.  You all know what the real score should be.  Won’t be engraving the trophy just yet…but, KMA still in GREAT shape to take home the title.  On to Round 4.

Totals:

Kiss My Ace Deux          41

Smash Brothers             35

Angry Squirrels               33

The Killers                        41

Shaping up for a GREAT Finish!

Bentleague X: The Sequel Draft Recap

Bentleague X: The Sequel Draft Recap   Not for the faint of heart…back by popular demand…here is the St. Bernard Swami’s recap of the Bentleague X Draft.   First things first, this is an unbiased take on the captain’s picks and how the teams fared out on draft night.   As the ombudsman of Bentleague you can count on an unbiased evaluation of each team from top to bottom.   Congrats to the Commish for finally getting rid of the cockamamie scoring system that favored top picks more than late round selections.   This is an inclusive league for all PAC members, and a win by Rockin Toupsie or Josh (Mr. Irrelevant) should be just as much as a win by Russ “Don’t call me Russell” Anderson.   Wait…did Josh win any Bentleague matches last year?   I digress…on to the team draft grades. Drafting in the number one position was Hairy Hal Neitzschman aka. Spin Doctors II.   No surprise here with Russ going first overall.   Clear #1 by everyon...

Bentleague Blog/Vlog 10/22/2025 - Round 2 Match 2 and 3

I'll BE BACK! Going with the VLOG to recap match 2 and 3 of Round 2. https://youtu.be/rLpJlQK81UM? feature=shared --- Here are a couple of parting shots as I go to the IR: Sensei Kobrock will live in Bentleague infamy for having a person who was in Germany in the line up. Grant is still winless!  How is this even possible with those fundamentals. Rudy is working hard to fulfill third round expectations...finally gets in the Win column and it only took five matches! Old Knees Harvey should not complain about being at line 6.  Congrats on the W with Millsie. Nick is the only captain this year to not have a previous title under his belt and its showing.   Don't bet on the Ego on Saturday mornings! The youngin's are asserting themselve,s but a few of the old guard still know how to win.  Especially in TSTB's. Round 3 will reveal who had the best draft middle on down.  Time to get some more players involved. Being on the IR during Bentleague is more painf...
