Round 4, Match 1 - Recap Nov 7th.

Round 4                 Match 1

Nov 7th, Thursday

6:00                          The Killers                              Angry Squirrels

Line 1                      Gabe Perez                           Noah Marquez                   6-1,6-1  Angry Squirrels 2pts

Guess Ed didn’t want to put his Single’s Title on the line against Noah.  Poor Gabe thrown to the wolves!  And his Mom was in attendance.  Damn you Brad!  Damn you!  Congrats Noah on your 1-1 victory.  At least I let him get 3 total games vs. the son of Ed four years ago.

Line 2                      Ed Dauterive                       Will Gement                        6-3,6-2 Angry Squirrels 2pts

                                    Chris Kobrock                     Greg Gordon

Talk about back firing on the Captain.  Decision to save Ed from Noah back fires as line 2 goes down too.  Will the thrill and Geecko Gordon humble Chris and The Donkey.  Brad getting nervous now…feels lead and the ship slipping away.  Come Back Shane…Come Back…repeating in his head!

Line 3                      Brad Humphreys               Jay Butcher                          6-2,6-4 Angry Squirrels 2pts

                                    Donald Allen                        Eddie Burdette

2-4 Win for the Chief and Candlestick.  This tandem could be a team to watch in the last round.  Eddies ground strokes led to several put aways for Butcher at the net.  Pairing may actually save Butcher from future broken rackets.  Hump and the Donald never really threatened was the consensus from most observers.

Line 4                      Cayman Sinclair               David Parnell                      6-3,6-4 The Killers

                                    Max Agnew                           Hal Neitzschman

Damn.  The one time I pull for Parnell he goes and loses.  Chef and Maximillian are a tough out!  Very complimentary of each other on the court.  7.5 foot reach from Fabio escalates net play while the Cannon hits bombs from the baseline.  Chef and Maximillian riding a good wave of late.

Line 5                      Jay Blossman                      Andrew McQuaid             7-5,7-6 Angry Squirrels

                                    Ken Looper                           Dave McGuire

Heavy weights take them down but it wasn’t easy!  How are these two going to play the full third set next round?  Conditioning could be a factor.  They better win matches in two.  Crafty float boat captain and Happy KenMoore just a couple of points away from pushing this to a TSTB!  Couple of lobs/body blows away from Huge upset!

Line 6                      Keith Laterrade                   Chris Rabon                         6-1,6-3 The Killers

                                    Paul Eskine                           Seth Monaghan

Eskine wins again?  And…did someone really say Eskine didn’t miss?  Swami would have lost money on this one.  Straight from the honey into the loser column.  Hope there’s no correlation.  Assume Smiley was very complimentary even though Eskine didn’t miss!  Sess, really!  And C’mon Round Mound of Rabon…I expect more from you.

Total Points        2                                                   7

Big ouch for the Mouth of Mandeville.  And he really missed Come Back Shane!

7:30                          Smash Brothers                Kiss My Ace Deux

Line 1                      Blake Powers                      Mark Schneider                 6-2,6-3 Kiss My Ace Deux             2pts

No Fair and No Nick?    Were they that scared of Don’t call me Russell?  And no one fell for that BS u were slinging Nick!  Let’s save Russ for Noah…BS!  Salutatorian pegged that BS early!  Just didn’t know you and Fair were Yellow Buck Robley!

Line 2                      Mitch Tucker                       Russell Anderson             6-1,5-7,1-0          Kiss My Ace Deux2pts

Ronny Regouffre               Michael Schwartz

Damn.  Third set tie breaker!  Wtf!  So close Ronny!  Heard he had the shot of the year too!  Back hand no look over head lob for the winner!  May get an Espy in the same year you break Gordo’s “worse record in Bentleague” record.  Oh yea, heard MDB played well too.  No shame in losing to Russell.  And Sarge! LOL.

Line 3                      Nick Thompson                  Jeff Thompson                    7-6,6-2 Smash Brothers

                                    Robert Groeneveld         Robby Economides

Not sure why this one was so one sided.  Guess I have to put Nick into the same category as Shane!  Heard Fear Factor crept on the court again.  It’s just Nick.  And Roberto…Robby!  Disinterested second very disappointing.  Will have to have an avoidance in future rounds.  May be challenging.  Remember every line matters!  They are just worth different points and sometimes those are randomly picked out of a hat!  But every line matters.

Line 4                      Mark Ferrer                          Rudy Kalman                       6-4,6-4 Kiss My Ace Deux

                                    Mike Mesa                             Joey Dunbar

Hold the phone!  Minus two Dunbar say not so fast on the self proclaimed best seventh round pick of Bentleague X! 4-4 looks like a break away from making this really interesting.  RuPaul jumps back into the win column to Captain Cubano’s dismay.  Glad to see minus two and Rudy pairing justifying draft status.

Line 5                      Bentley Harvey                   Burt Dalton                          6-4,6-4 Smash Brothers                2pts

                                    Addison Melancon          Skip Scoggins

And for two it’s Old Knees himself and the Cajun Coonass.  Swami keeping an eye on Addi…as he will surely keep getting better as the legs improve and he gains some weight and muscle.  Thought my squad had a chance, but… When Bentley walks off strutting like a peacock (with no shirt on) it’s not a good sign for opponents.  Glad to see that strut Commish!  Just put a shirt on….please.  or shave that chest!

Line 6                      Matt Dean                             Tony Priola                            6-2,2-6-1-0         Kiss My Ace Deux

                                    George Lampard               Wayne Durr

What looked like a walk in the park turned into a battle royal!  Hats off to George the Animal Lampard and Mad Matt!  Those two battled!  Matt may have the best overhead from the baseline in Bentleague.  A lot of Deuce games prior to the TSTB!  KMA pairing of Wayne’s World Durr and the Saint prevail in a closer than it should have been TSTB.

Total Points        3                                                   6

KMA  takes the Match 6-3.  Puts a little distance between 1st and 2nd.  As Big Al would say…Just Win Baby!  Two left in Round four!  Get those matches in Captains! Bentleague resumes today (Thursday!)  LFG….Glad to get back to Bentleague after dominating 7.5/8.5 Northshore Combo Tourney this past weekend with my KMA teammate!  Kiss My Ace for life!  I know some of you are still wishing you would have been drafted by KMA.  JS!

Race to the Title:

Kiss My Ace                         47

Smash Brothers                38

Angry Squirrels                  40

The Killers                              43

Bentleague X: The Sequel Draft Recap

Bentleague X: The Sequel Draft Recap   Not for the faint of heart…back by popular demand…here is the St. Bernard Swami’s recap of the Bentleague X Draft.   First things first, this is an unbiased take on the captain’s picks and how the teams fared out on draft night.   As the ombudsman of Bentleague you can count on an unbiased evaluation of each team from top to bottom.   Congrats to the Commish for finally getting rid of the cockamamie scoring system that favored top picks more than late round selections.   This is an inclusive league for all PAC members, and a win by Rockin Toupsie or Josh (Mr. Irrelevant) should be just as much as a win by Russ “Don’t call me Russell” Anderson.   Wait…did Josh win any Bentleague matches last year?   I digress…on to the team draft grades. Drafting in the number one position was Hairy Hal Neitzschman aka. Spin Doctors II.   No surprise here with Russ going first overall.   Clear #1 by everyon...

Bentleague Blog/Vlog 10/22/2025 - Round 2 Match 2 and 3

I'll BE BACK! Going with the VLOG to recap match 2 and 3 of Round 2. https://youtu.be/rLpJlQK81UM? feature=shared --- Here are a couple of parting shots as I go to the IR: Sensei Kobrock will live in Bentleague infamy for having a person who was in Germany in the line up. Grant is still winless!  How is this even possible with those fundamentals. Rudy is working hard to fulfill third round expectations...finally gets in the Win column and it only took five matches! Old Knees Harvey should not complain about being at line 6.  Congrats on the W with Millsie. Nick is the only captain this year to not have a previous title under his belt and its showing.   Don't bet on the Ego on Saturday mornings! The youngin's are asserting themselve,s but a few of the old guard still know how to win.  Especially in TSTB's. Round 3 will reveal who had the best draft middle on down.  Time to get some more players involved. Being on the IR during Bentleague is more painf...
