Bentleague Results

Sept 18th Thursday

Vistor                                Home                 Score                  Winner

6:00

  BSS II                                             CK II

Line 1                Eddie Burdette             Ed Dauterive  7-5,6-3              CK II

                              Jay Butcher                     Blair Touchard

The Dr. Death and Tasmanian Touchard show continue to roll.  Interesting move by Captain Come Back Shano to put himself at line 2.  I know Tricky Nicky isn’t putting himself at line 2.  Raises a lot of questions about this kid’s competitiveness.  A little early in the season to be sacrificing lines.  Also, I know there were some angry ladies on Court 1 because of the racket toss.  Well…it was more than a toss.  Pretty impressive to clear the fence from Court 6 to Court 1 Candlestick.  Hope Genesis get their liability insurance up to date.  Have a feeling this might not be the last time Butch throws/breaks his racket.

Line 2                Mark Schneider           Chris Kobrock 6-2,6-4   BSS II

                              Shane McCarthy         Tony Priola

All I’m saying is that a 1 and 4 should beat a two and five.  Nevertheless, Lil Nadal was humbled by this BSS duo.  The old switch-a-roo (moving Butch to line 1) saved Butch from the dirt and caught the Cobra Kai captain off guard.  Could have been a different story on a hard court.  Tennis gods were kind to Samurai and Shane.  Swami never seen so many off center winners from these two in his life.

Line 3                Mike Lane                       Greg Gordon   6-7,6-3,1-0 BSS II

                              John Hearn                     Jay Blossman

Ouch.  Did Cobra Kai really blow a five-point lead in the TSTB.  Haven’t seen that since Max and Jack the Ripper choked away their doubles match in the over 50 challenge.  Hope this one doesn’t come back to bite Cobra Kai on the butt.  Congrats to DickTrain Lane and the Ole Miss guy.  DickTrain stepped up at the end.

Line 4                Shawn Potter                 Garret Phillippi 6-2,6-2 CK

                              Wayne Songy                Ryan Fornier

2 and 2?  Can anybody beat the Phillippi Fornier pair at line 4.  Can Kobrock hide Phillippi at line 4 all year.  Guess since they are all worth one point it doesn’t matter.  If Shane can play line 2, then G-Man can play line 4.

Line 5                Skip Scoggins                Doug Autin      7-5,6-7,1-0      CK II

                              Eric Daigle                      Sid Hauptmann

And…for the match win – Bogalusa Doug and Sid the Kid take line 5.  Battle of Bogalusa not lost on the Swami.  Some say the Skipper was the best athlete to come out of Bogalusa.  Doug just gets the girls.  And on this Thursday…the WIN!

Total Points     2                                          3

Match to Cobra Kai.  Which makes the Swami (and many others) question the Commissioner’s scoring.  No bonus for winning a match?  We went from all lines matter to only lines matter.  Why offer up a 2-point line in subsequent rounds if there is no bonus for winning a match.  Cobra Kai is 2-0 and should have two extra points for two match wins.  Am I the only one questioning this omission.  I don’t want to use cockamamie because that one is reserved for last year’s commissioner (worst ever) but this is ridiculous.

7:00                    Tricky's Tribe                Spin Doctors 2

Line 1                Nick Thompson           Russell Anderson        6-0,6-3 Tricky's Tribe

                              Mark Fair                         Rudy Kalman

Ouch times ten!  Six - Zero.  Really Russ.  Swami is going to start calling you Russel again if you continue to go winless.  May not be your fault.  Swami thought is was a stretch to draft Rudy so high.  Yea…he went 6 and 3 last year for KMA but he was drafted after the 10th round.  Can he live up to a round three selection.  After just two weeks of Bentleague the answer seems clear.  No, he cannot.  I wish we had film of the Walk of Shame to retrieve his bag that was thrown over the fence after the defeat.  Swami and others were surprised about the anger since the match wasn’t even that close.  Good much needed win for the Ego and Tricky.  Needed a little confidence builder after last week’s defeat.

Line 2                Addison Melancon     Michael Schwartz       6-4,6-2 Tricky's Tribe

                              Jack Ellis                          Grant Matherne

Has Grant won a match in Bentleague?  Is his nickname really the Cooler?  A lot of athleticism on this Tribe squad.  Swami will be keeping an eye on these two.  If 5.0 Addi resurfaces, Nicky may have struck gold.

Line 3                Donald Allen                 Mark Ferrer     7-5,7-5               Tricky's Tribe

                              Max Agnew                     Mike Mesa

Closest match of the night.  Just ask Rehash.  Did Ferr and Mesa let one slip away.  Had it on their racket to force a third set but tennis gods said not so fast.  Good to see Max get a win without Jack the Ripper.  Dude has an impressive wingspan at the net.  Will give Tricky some flexibility on roster pairings moving forward.  Have a feeling the Donald will be asking for line 3 moving forward.

Line 4                Kevin Phayer                  Mitch Tucker   6-2,6-1               Spin Doctors 2

                              Lowell Shih                     Alejandro Torres

Well.  Congratulations MDB on your line 4 win.  Probably good confidence builder for Ale too.  Five and a 10, should beat a nine and a 13 so keep your head up Squirrel.  Welcome to Bentleague Lowell.  You now have as many Win’s as Grant.

Line 5                Justin Guitreau             George Lampard 6-3,4-6,1-0 Spin Doctors

                              Ross Doyle                     Keith Laterrade

TSTB’s will decide Bentleague X.  Better start practicing them.  Betting line said Lampard and Laterade but it wasn’t easy.  That Justin kid has a lot of moxie. May not look good on film but Swami sees some W’s in his future.  Nice find at 16 for Hairy Hal.  Ross answered the competitive bell too.  LL duo prevailed in three but it was a fight.  That is what makes Bentleague so good.

3                                          2

Hairy Hal is on the board.  Let’s put the shut out behind us.  Anyone else two and oh!

Bentleague X: The Sequel Draft Recap

Bentleague X: The Sequel Draft Recap   Not for the faint of heart…back by popular demand…here is the St. Bernard Swami’s recap of the Bentleague X Draft.   First things first, this is an unbiased take on the captain’s picks and how the teams fared out on draft night.   As the ombudsman of Bentleague you can count on an unbiased evaluation of each team from top to bottom.   Congrats to the Commish for finally getting rid of the cockamamie scoring system that favored top picks more than late round selections.   This is an inclusive league for all PAC members, and a win by Rockin Toupsie or Josh (Mr. Irrelevant) should be just as much as a win by Russ “Don’t call me Russell” Anderson.   Wait…did Josh win any Bentleague matches last year?   I digress…on to the team draft grades. Drafting in the number one position was Hairy Hal Neitzschman aka. Spin Doctors II.   No surprise here with Russ going first overall.   Clear #1 by everyon...

Bentleague Blog/Vlog 10/22/2025 - Round 2 Match 2 and 3

I'll BE BACK! Going with the VLOG to recap match 2 and 3 of Round 2. https://youtu.be/rLpJlQK81UM? feature=shared --- Here are a couple of parting shots as I go to the IR: Sensei Kobrock will live in Bentleague infamy for having a person who was in Germany in the line up. Grant is still winless!  How is this even possible with those fundamentals. Rudy is working hard to fulfill third round expectations...finally gets in the Win column and it only took five matches! Old Knees Harvey should not complain about being at line 6.  Congrats on the W with Millsie. Nick is the only captain this year to not have a previous title under his belt and its showing.   Don't bet on the Ego on Saturday mornings! The youngin's are asserting themselve,s but a few of the old guard still know how to win.  Especially in TSTB's. Round 3 will reveal who had the best draft middle on down.  Time to get some more players involved. Being on the IR during Bentleague is more painf...
